Heard from Don last week, now it's April. Like the D-Day landings, has been delayed but the troops are ready. (For those of you young guys, it's when the Greatest Generation landed on the beaches of Normandy and with great sacrifice saved all of us from work camps and speaking German, although it is a great language, but I digress.)

Gents

We anticipate April now. The front 15 rooms are complete and we have started on the back 14 rooms. We decided to replace all electric, plumbing and add a third floor in back with rooftop decks that required additional permits. We feel it is best to delay the opening until we are finished due to the amount of noise and dust the new construction is creating. If you have any questions feel free to contact me, don or Darren.

FYI. When complete we will have six additional penthouses, two king rooms with balconies, five queen rooms and sixteen kings.

Matt........

Please tell us when you expect to begin accepting reservations..........

And if you have decided on a pricing structure for your different rooms.

There were problems, such as tubs with the drain uphill from most of the tub, so I see what you mean. Will there be longer term discounts (I've read about week discounts at Amistad) and kitchenettes? I rented one of the bottom back rooms many times, often staying for a month at a time.

We have added three 3rd floor penthouses with rooftop decks. The front section is complete and the back rooms are 70% complete. As for pricing structure it has not been determined. All permits are approved and work is moving forward. We are hesitant to accept reservations at this time as we want the work to be completed prior to opening. We will keep everyone in the loop as work progresses.

I was just in SJ and crawled around the Castillo a little. Lots of work going on and I am sure there was lots of over due maintenance that is being done now. Having talked to Don and Darren, they are doing the renovations the correct way. They are not deferring work that could come back to haunt them in the future. You really do not know what is behind the walls or below the flooring until you peel back the onion. Spend the right amount time to do things the right way. People who want it done now will be the first in line to complain that something doesn't work. Give it the proper amount of time and everyone will be happy with the final result.

+1

It's a fantastic property, and we are going to expect the place to reflect La Amistad in quality. So let them take the time to get it right.

Totally agree. It still would be nice to have a before-and-after photo spread when it is ready (assuming there are any "before" pix.

I remember running into Steve at the Presidente when he told me about his hotel. The back part was just a construction site. 5 months later I was staying in one of the then rooms for $30/night cash. It has been awhile.

The hotel side was pretty consistent but the bar/restaurant changed almost every year. Maybe having a boss who is in town will help keep a stable food/bar presence.
