I guess Delta is the 1st on board, cutting fares. I don't know if it is because of the lower fuel cost or not. I understand airlines buys futures on barrells. Anyway, check this out on Delta.com

Charlotte to SJO was around $800 now $316 r.t.
Miami $500 now $322 r.t.
Phoenix $600 now $322 r.t
Dallas $700 now $317 r.t.

OLD, I think you happened to check Delta on your lucky day (huh, one lucky day for one lucky dog! :D ) I checked from Orlando and Miami to SJO, which both go through ATL, and the cheapest fares between Jan 18 and Feb 21 are $553 from Orlando and $593 from Miami. Their web site says they have no direct flights from MIA to SJO. Direct from ATL is more expensive than from either MCO or MIA, go figure!

No they don't have a direct flight from Miami to SJO. Like going to heaven or hell, you have to go through Atlanta first. So, the fare still stands, MIA to SJO via ATL $322.

I'm curious what dates you found those fares for. I searched two weeks prior to the Super Bowl and three weeks after (flexible dates), and can't find fares even close to that. The fares did come down a little. Now the cheapest I can find are $495 from Orlando and $524 from Miami. I wonder if you are seeing different fares because of the location you are searching from.

Booked a 1st Class ticket from Ohio through Dallas to SJ couple weeks ago for $900.

Difference in costs of coach and 1st was $150, no brainer.

GDJ, i went back in to search for the fare MIA to SJO 1/28 - 2/3 and they were sold out. I will keep you posted if I see anything else from your area.
