I have been watching prices for tickets between Orlando and Medellin for travel at the end of January and beginning of February. Spirit was $320 before any of the add-ons, and Copa was $512. I had read that Spirit tickets are less if you buy them at the airport. Their website says they may be less at the airport. This morning, I went to the airport, and for the days I was watching, the price was $361. I came home to check if the online price was still $320. It had gone up to $370, and Copa had gone up to $572. I think that shoots a hole in the theory that prices are cheapest on Tuesday. I received an email from JetBlue today and they still have some good prices, but they don't fly from Orlando to Medellin. Their prices for Orlando to San Jose for travel in March has not changed ($384 r/t). Has anyone else seen a jump in prices on other airlines? |

I come from Cincinnati and normally pay around $700 or $750. I just looked for next March and April and it's between 8-$900....Ridiculous. |

AA had a Cyber Monday sale - 406 r/t from MIA... I remember paying 210 r/t back in 2009/2010. mh |

I got direct flights with Avianca (from Miami to Medellin) for end of January, early February (Superbowl week) for $417 all in. But I booked the flights a few weeks ago. Not sure what they're going for now. Might be worth driving down to MIA if it's that much cheaper. And I've always liked flying with Avianca. But Spirit? I'd rather have my ass kicked than fly with that airline. ![]() |

I wondered why, as you may have, why air ticket costs are going through the roof when their major expense to fly, fuel costs, are at historic lows. Here's the short answer: Because they can.: http://qz.com/298320/why-airlines-can-c ... s-are-low/ |

AS far as the best day to book a flight - Sundays are the new Tuesdays. |

On Bird day, I looked at flights for July 15 to use my AA miles on and was shocked 50,000 one way 90,000 round trip for the cheap seats ( did not want to see Business class Miles needed) and a over night both going and coming WTF was 35,000 last time I looked, Well On Tuesday back to 35,000 round trip and no over nights Bought right away. As for why prices have not dropped with gas prices going down. Before the first big rise in gas back in 2006-7(?) Only South WEST was hedging, now they all airlines do it to smooth out gas prices, so in effect they are using gas today that they bought last summer or spring. And for dropping in the future, it will be a game of Chicken with the air lines- almost a conspiracy but more of who blinks first -- they will take some better profits for a while and hope no else cuts prices first, if one does it the others will follow. I have already noticed a quiet cut in prices for South American travel, in that you are now allowed 2 checked bags instead of one on the majors , ok not cash, but better then paying for all checked bags, use of the toilet, a per inch or TP used, each glace out of the window and a seat belt usage surcharge |

For an upcoming trip I'm paying a total of $77 in taxes & fees, not the $170 fuel surcharge which Copa expressly mentions in their fare breakdown. |

It might depend on destination and dates. Looking at fares from JFK to Bangkok... ~$800.. Under 1000 is usually unheard of.. Dirt cheap. Prices fluctuate often though. |

So they haven't increased much since you bought. Adding the costs of driving from Orlando and parking fees will put it well over $500. I guess I will bite the bullet and go with Spirit. The arrival and departure times are better for me on Spirit. By changing the dates, I found a fare for $348, plus $70 for luggage. |

From Chicago to SJO UA charges about $675.00, but First class is still less than a grand. Worth the upgrade. Non stops on the weekend also. |

Might be a good time to try Asia. Flights are the cheapest in years, maybe due to more competition. I can now fly to BKK or MNL for around $800 (excluding December). I haven’t noticed a drop to San Jose or the DR. |

Greengo wrote: delta owns their own refinery ...with cost plus reciprocals endemic...long haul flights in new fuel efficient aircraft help lower fares...oh ...almost forgot ...fukabunchaticos ![]() As an article I posted made clear, there is almost no connection these days between fuel expenses and ticket charges. Your post is thus wholly irrelevant. Nice try, Buckaroo. Get back to us when you have truth to impart--my money's on the second half of this century. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe_HtA5zw9U |
