Bingster,

I just got my passport renew and also asked for express service and got it back in a total of 6 days from the date I mailed it out. Mine was also filled with several stamps from travel to Holland, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, and Brazil. My passport has at least 10 months before expired but I had no more room for stamps so I went ahead and got it renew.

I filled out the application for renewal myself and mailed it out with the postal service guaranteeing 3 days delivery. I also included a return envelope which also guarantee 3 days delivery. I also asked for a bigger passport with more pages than the regular size ones just incase I win the lottery and gets to travel more than before. There is no charge for this request. As I said I got mine back in 6 days and a peace of mind for an extra $60.

Post subject:  Renewing US passport from CR

Anybody have experience renewing a US passport from CR? I am a CR resident and my passport expires in April of this year. I drove by the US Embassy the other day to ask some questions...the line was half a block down the street, so I just kept going???

CR,

Not sure about SJ but have been to a couple US Embassies in foreign countries and US citizens were allowed to go to the front of the line.

Good chance the line was for visa apps.

They do let US citizens to the front of the line.
They will renew on a 'drop it off now and pick it up in a couple of days' basis.
They will do while you wait if you have a valid emergency.

LVSteve,
In the past when I travelled on airline passes and almost ran out of pages, the US Passport people added blank fold out pages to my passport.
The next time it was issued, they issued me the passport with additional pages. Apparently there is more than one size, page wise.

as Rocco advised , I did the same in Shanghai some years ago , U.S. passport is a ticket to the front of the line

When you go to the US Embassy in Pavas you are really going to the Consular section. Yes there is a long line but that is made up of Tico's seeking visas just go to the door, show your passport and you will be let in. The US citizen section is on the left side. You do not need to renew your passport if you running out of pages they can add pages to your passport.
