I thank you for posting - its great info, and while I realize Orange was making a joke (as well as a point) at the very least you need to add: Seat fee- at least $10 - each way (minimum $20 - and BTW - Spirits "pre reclined" seats rank up there as an oxymoron along with "Military Intelegence" or "Jumbo Shrimp" Carry on Baggage fee - what, $30 or so - at a minimum; could be much more - each way So you have $80 at a minimum in "extras". ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() IMO you have to have - a seat, and the ability to carry on a bag - these are not "extras" - I mean you need a seat and most going down for a week or so will need to carry enough that a bag becomes a necessity - and yes, while I've flown Spirit numerous times, and some - even on this site - try to explain and justify their "rules" - they tend to annoy many. As I often do when this subject comes up, I will state that Spirit has always been on time and never cancelled a flight - something I sure cannot say about AA. Spirit also would be the last company I would want to work for - for many reasons, starting with their basic philosophy of business - I will give them the credit to say they are profitable in a very difficult industry. |

Seat fee not required if you just take the seat assigned to you at check-in. It might be the middle seat but it is not a long flight from the East Coast. Can't avoid fee for any type of bag. If you fly frequently to San Jose, best to buy that $9 club membership for $60 and over the year, you will save money on some of the fees. I have never flown on Spirit but I plan on flying to San Jose more often and the price is very competitive even with the extra fees (assuming carry on only and random seat). This appears to be the operating procedure for low fare discount airlines now, see Ryan Air and Air Asia who have same type of fees. At least they are not charging a fee to use the toilet or to have toilet paper. Well, not yet. |

though I do not do this, one way around the bag fee (for frequent travelers) is to keep a bag at your hotel in SJ. Most hotels will allow you to store a bag for a fee, and the laundry service is much cheaper than the carry fee. I have met several guys that do this. They tend to stay at the same hotels on each trip, so it makes sense. |

Much better deal on a much better carrier daydreamer101 wrote: Seat fee not required if you just take the seat assigned to you at check-in. Its interesting - to me at least - that you have never flown them but you seem very willing to comment favorably about their practices and policies ![]() 2 and a half hours on one of their "pre reclined" seats - and oh god - I can't imagine doing it in a middle seat ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() However yes you are correct in that if you don't carry on (what the Phuck are you gonna do???? wear the same shit stained underwear and dirty socks for a week?????? And yes, I know many hotels offer laundry service - just making a point ![]() ![]() ![]() The fact that other airlines operate in similar fashion - and Spirit/ Ryan Air BS model has permiated the industry - does not mean travelers have to like it - tell you what - fly them, then post back - I have frequently - and I've tried to post in a fair way - posted about their on time record. When you add in the necessaries - like a seat, a carry on bag - Spirit is seldom the least expensive - and if they are its not by much - far better to fly another carrier - like Jet Blue. As far as Ryan Air - Phuck them too - the great mass of deadbeats have spoken - and they want low air fares - Spirit is a result. BD - not a bad suggestion - it just will not apply or be practical for the vast majority ![]() |
