After what happened to Captain last month, this asshole singled me out today to enforce a dress code that I did not know existed. He would not let my chica in the hotel this afternoon complaining about her top. She had on jeans and a halter top and was NOT dressed like a slutty puta at all.
Once I figured out what was up, I told him I was going up to my room and get a dress shirt and she WAS coming to my room, he backed off and said OK. She was dressed better than most of the putas that have been parading through here.
We went on up but what bullshit and embarrasing thing for her and me. There was hardly anyone in the lobby, a few in the cafe and most of the tourists have gone home.
If the Presidente now has a dress code I'd like to know the details. But I think Marvin is on a little power trip and makes up his own phucking rules if he doesn't like the way a chica looks.
I'm checking out manana, hate to impose on the Admins but if you'd like to inquire about Marvin and the new dress code on our behalf let me know. Otherwise I'll talk to Mgmt. before I check out and get the scoop.

I know I'll get criticized Paco, but I don't know why everyone is so enamored with the Presidente anyway. Sportsmen's Lodge may not have been rocking new year's eve, but the rooms beat the Presidente and the Del Rey to me. Here is how it seems to me. Mongers made the Presidente the busy place it is and now they want to be uppity. sounds like time to bypass this hotel and take the business elsewhere. They are typical of most down here that don't have a f*cking clue how to run a business. Anyways, glad to hear some guys are finally getting some. I'll be in briefly tomorrow evening before going to the States on Friday. Hopefully, I'll get a little something too.

Peace

The management was gone for the evening, but I just confonted dipshit Marvin about whe he was hassling my amiga earlier. (Marvin is just a Tico security guard at the front door.)
He says "Oh senor, it is hotel policy chicas wear a sweater" What an idiot, as I type this there is a guy signing a chica in with a tube top, should I go ask where her phucking sweater is?

The Pres. has been great and I like it here, the staff, service, (except for having no water in the hotel for a few hours yesterday) are great and have good attitudes. Since I'm not the first to have problems with Marvin, I just think the Mgmt. needs to know a minimum wage employee is being a dick. I know what your saying Thirdworld, I've spent probably 3 grand at this hotel last year...

Get him fired Paco. I hate when these security guards have attitude. I guarantee if you spin the story right (hey, I'm not above lying to embelish the story) they will can his ass. I've got a real problem with places that get self righteous when the mongers are what made them in the first place. I am online for a living and go to a lot of sites and message boards on Costa Rica everyday. I can spread a lot of bad press in a short time and I'm hearing more and mroe negatives about the Pres. Anyhow, at least you guys are in San Jose. I'll be up tomorrow.

Paco,

You are not the only one. I have been observing some attitude changes with the employees at the Presidente. It appears to be coming from the new employees and not the ones that have been there awhile.

I have been staying at the Presidente for several years and have had excellent services from all staff. But during this last couple of years they have hired new front desk staff that are not as friendly as several years back. A few times while in the process of checking in my guests the front desk guy act like it was a burden for him to do it. Sometimes I can sense a resentment for us being there. Some of this bad attitude is not obvious so you will not notice it unless you were very observant. A couple of times I felt like reaching over the counter top and grab him by the throat and tell him to do his damn job, sign my guest in, and stop copping me the attitude.

In the old days the front desk would smile when you walk up, was glad to sign-in my guest, and give me a thumbs-up as a sign of approval of my choice. I don't get that anymore.

Yes I would agree the El Presidente has Run Its Course!!!

Check In is too Quick, The Bellman will not let me touch my bags, and insist on telling me everything about my room… Duh Like I’ve never stayed here before! The Jr. Suites are too Large, the Air Conditioning is Too Cold. I hate Warm Showers, and my Room Attendants are way Too Accommodating making sure that I have Extra Towels Every Day, Clean Sheets, Extra Pillows, Heck they even fill my Ice Bucket Every Evening.. I just Hate That!!

The Free Breakfast interrupts my early Morning sleep plans, and why do I have to order my Eggs Specially Made. I like Fresh Orange Juice that has Pits, and when I sit on the Rail I feel like everyone is watching me eat. Everyone is Way Too Happy at this Hotel always saying Hello, and Goodbye… Who gave them the right to try and keep me Happy!.????

When I venture up those stairs too visit the Administrative Office to give my regards to Maria and Wendy they are way Too Willing to stop what they are doing to talk with me. I think it’s a Set-Up to get me to reserve for my next Trip…. Sneaks they are…

I haven’t even begun to comment on the Traffic this place gets, with the Locals, and these Gringo’s with A Million-Dollar Smile and Five and Dime Wallets. And what’s the Deal with that Front Desk Seems to be a Very Popular Hangout …. Must be for Lotto Tickets or something…

What has Happened to this Hotel, I Must Be Crazy …..

Nope Just a Bad Dream!!!!!

I’m Ok now I just checked my RSVP note I received from Maria and Wendy wishing me a Happy New Year and confirming my next stay in April …

Talk about Cold Sweats…

Johnnie B.

A fellow mongerer told me, after a similiar problem with dress code, that he spoke to an employee he was friendly with. He said the mongerers days were numbered. They want to become a family type hotel.
A shame but there are other options. Too bad Sportsman is not closer to the gulch. I like being able to walk to the hotel in 2 minutes and not be too scared as opposed to the walk to the Sportsman in the wee hours.

Let me interject here for one second... Obviously I have my preferance to the Presidente but I have had numerous conversations with upper mgt of the hotel and I'd like to point out a couple of things. Whatever is said via the staff to another guest it is not the opinion of the hotel or the mgt or ownership.

They continue to support and welcome the gentelemen of this board with open arms and have no intention of changing the existing policies in place.

They have always responded to any incidents of unhappy guests in a timely, & professional manner and this matter of Marvin has already been submitted to them and I'm sure will be dealt with accordingly, and professionally.

Not every employee will smile, and not every single visit will go according to plan. All we can hope as guests as we are treated with respect and appreciated so that our stay is a pleasant one and I have no doubt the Hotel Presidente will continue to provide us with the service that we have come to enjoy.

I will keep you updated on this particular event and its subsequent conclusion.

Well maybe I just was unaware of some of there policies. Made a post last month about being told could not sit at the rail with an amigo and just have a beer, had to order food. Had never had that happen in the past.

Was that just an existing policy that had been overlooked in the past :?:

The only negative comment I can make about the President is the one morning waitress that always seems to be in a bad mood.

Other than her (who I did manage to get a smile out of in September), I've always had excellent service in all areas regarding the hotel and the News Cafe.

Look guys, I didn't mean to start a Bash the Pres. thread, I just know that:

-I'm not the first guy to be treated unfairly by Marvin.
-If the Pres. has this dress code policy he speaks of, then shouldn't we and the chicas know about it?
-If Marvin is just being a prick sometimes then Mgmt. should know about that.
That's all.
I like the Pres., always stay here and plan to again. Hell now that I'm a regular they all welcome me back and treat me well.

And Johnnie B.
When you come back, if you can add "The security guy at the front door never gives me crap or harrasses me or my chica" to your sarcastic post,
don't forget to thank me.

If you are in CR over the long hall, one of the biggest frustrations will be consistant and reliable services or employees. I would not want an employee centric business here because there seems to be a genetic code lacking understanding of first world service mentality and manner. Compared to the many joys found here, it is something we locals grin and bear even when just driving around with these people. The best that can be done is what is being done in this case...report the behavior to management or owners...and if not satisfied with the results...there ARE many other options if we open our minds and try some new places.

I will try to talk with the manager if I see him again. He is a nice young Polish guy.
I did not have trouble gettin Anna signed in this morning and she was in jeans and a light jacket.

Could it be that the Presidente is struggling with an identity crisis?

Think about the dillemma facing the management: Although many of us on this board have contributed greatly to the hotel's success, the hotel does cater to and market itself to non-hobby tourists. And ironically, isn't that what appeals to some of us hobbyists in the first place? It does to me.

I like the fact that I'm in a hotel that is not well-known for housing mongers and prostitutes (e.g., nobody here can do an internet search on where I'm staying and get a hint of what I'm actually doing). I like to be able to tell non-hobby people I meet in CR that I'm staying at a "legitimate" hotel. I realize that this will get harder and harder to do as more of us choose that hotel and make it somewhat notorious. In fact, I'm already looking for other San Jose alternatives. In the meantime, I enjoy the Presidente's facilities like wireless internet and free breakfast all at a very reasonable rate. I have never had a bad experience with any of the staff. I'll be bummed when I have to stay somewhere else.

I did witness security deny access to a fellow hobbyist and his date one evening (not you Paco) and it did initially strike me as kind of odd because she was not dressed that much more provocatively than any other DR girl. Although the delivery may not have been as tactful as possible, the incident did suggest some kind of a "slippery slope" argument from the hotel. I also thought maybe the DR girl had a run in with the hotel before. I'm not saying that management is/was right or wrong here. Just hoping that we can look at ourselves and our conduct objectively...
