Has anyone stayed at Hotel Mango Mar in Jaco? If so, what do you think of it as an alternative to Hotel Cocal. Is it quiet? How convenient is it to get over to Cocal? Any problem from the hotel with bringing chicas in?

I have stayed at Cocal, and found it quite acceptable, except that it is very noisy (particularly the parking lot rooms)

The Mango Mar entrance is right next to the Cocal entrance. The two hotels are basically back to back. I have been told they do allow guests.

They did back in February when I stayed there. I liked the place. It's mellow but mostly families and certainly not a monger spot.

I stayed there about four years ago so things might have changed. I loved the guitar-shaped pool and the direct beach access. I few things to note:

(1) I don't remember them having an in-room safe though that might have changed. If important verify.

(2) I made my reservations through a CR travel site and the clerk at the front desk told me she could have given me a much better rate booking directly by calling the hotel.

(3) Rooms were clean but pretty Spartan.

(4) They DID allow guests.

(5) Get a room on the second floor. If there is a big downpour, the water will flow down the little side street and flood some of the first floor rooms. It happened while I was there though maybe the city has improved the storm drainage.
