Hey all,

Im doing a bachelor party in Jaco. I wanted to know if anyone has taken a helicopter to Jaco from SJO? If so what company did you use?

What a great idea! No personal knowledge but these folks might help: http://www.flyhelijet.com/en/ or http://www.aerotourcr.com/ or http://www.aeroteccr.com/ or http://www.costaricahelicopter.net/
Appears to be a very competitive biz so the per-seat costs should be roughly comparable.

OK so far i got prices for 2 out of the 4 places.

aerotec wanted $2,260.00 for up to 6 people. in the breakdown they charged me for the return flight back to San Jose.

Helijet wanted $1,250 for 4 people and $1,650 for 5 people. They also include someone who picks me up from the terminal to take me to the helipad and snacks and beverages.

Ill update with other two company prices when i get them.

I have used aerotec over twenty times. That price they quoted you is horrendous. San Jose Pavas to Jaco would be max of 15 minutes flight time and could actually be under 10!!!!!.

They charged me about 800/900 on a regular basis for 1 to 4 people from Peninsula Papagayo into either SJO or Pavas (a significantly longer flight of about 50 minutes). And if memory serves me right the 800 to 900 was with a generous tip for our host.

FWIW, getting everyone into a cab or car to get to pavas airport, then through security and immigration, and any check in b.s., then loading up and flying, then back into a vehicle and onto your Jaco hotel will almost certainly take longer than it would to drive.... Plus helicopter does not stop at Tarcoles river bridge for crocodiles and touristy photos to say you were not in Costa Rica for hookers.

Editd for autocorrect spelling mistake in Tarcoles River

Not my place to comment before, just answer the question but all with Bro CRGolfer all the way. Do the NYC-Hamptons chopper there; here go by ground trans. Whatever it used to be with the scenic route or whizzing on the new way, they'll get a trip/have the experience they would not get elsewhere. Looking to make it memorable, right? This is the way to go. Rock on!

more memorable would be to save a few thousand $'s and blow it on hookers and cocaine instead! Just saying.... I mean you have seen the aerial view of san jose, bunch of zinc roofed shacks and trash piles along an eroding river bank! It is a third world country for christ's sake. Not to mention it is rainy season and any scenic views of a volcano would be cloud covered most anytime after about 6:30 am. Even more so on the scenic route you talk about all you see between san jose and jaco is a now closed down recycling plant, some burned up sugar cane fields around the Cacique plant, and the RECOPE fuel production plant. All wholesome things you can see if you get a window seat on your commercial jetliner in or out of SJO.

Just more reason why the helicopter money might be better spent on hookers and drugs.... or screw it, stay clean.... get a party bus, fill it with hookers to give you a blow job along the way to Jaco. That might be another more memorable way to go.

And last of least is the landing zone in Jaco.... where you going to land a chopper there? Los Suenos has a landing area, but they gringo tax you to death on a landing fee because at one of their other developments in Guanacaste there was actually an accident several years ago.

Very Funny! I agree. Get a nice shuttle bus. The drive to Jaco is nothing.

Is this a joke? Who has that kind of money to burn? Spend it on good food, good booze, fine women and a van to your destination, but not necessarily in that order.

CRG,
I think your math is a little off. An Apache wouldn't get him to Jaco in 15 minutes, much less the typical tourist chopper like a Bell 206 (most common).   The crusing speed is at most 130 knots (150 mph) on these "light" choppers. Jaco is 60-70 miles from SJ, lets say 65. That's 30 minutes counting climb and descent.

And to second your other point, nowhere to land. You can't put down a chopper on the strip. Quepos is the nearest air strip, but that's what 20-30 minutes I think.

Take Intrebus for $40 and save a couple thousand.

If you really wanted to fly, take Sansa or Nature Air to Quepos for under $100.

Post subject:  Re: Chopper

For What it is worth.... Jaco to quepos is 45 minutes to an hour. I make the drive two to three times a year for a large meeting.

It is also 45 minutes San Jose to Jaco. So not sure what good it would be to land in Quepos. There is a landing pad in Los Suenos, but they gringo tax the heck out of you to use it. Even in the Wild West of Costa Rica pilots will not just land somewhere cause they want to.

You are dead on about the flight distance between Jaco and San Jose. Which would further my question of saying why fly when the drive is so short?

Exactly. Interbus for $40 and save $1500 for hookers, hotels, food, etc.

Well at least if anybody ever wants to take a helicopter anywhere in CR, now they have an info source and arguments why they should reconsider. Public service all the way, this Board
