Just recieved e-mail from Nixon and he gave me rates of 60.00 weekends, and 65.00 weekdays for my Feb. trip. He was informed that I am a VIP CRT member. What happened to the 49.00 a night rate?

Jeeezzzz!! Why complain about a $65 rate at the Amon. The Amon is a Great hotel and NOBODY should be complaining about paying $65 for a room there. Here in Los Angeles you can't even find a dingy prostitutes motel for that kind of money so be Thankful that so many nice things in C.R. are as inexpensive as they are.

Holas amigos,

Looks like the Standard rooms are $65 and the Junior Suites are $85.
Aside from the obvious $20 difference, what exactly is the difference between the Standard and Junior Suite rooms ?

Checked their web page and took the "visual tour" and couldn't tell any differences between the two.

Gracias,

Ye Old Man

If you take the 49$ rate add the 23% CR taxes

When did the tax rate go to 23% :?: Has been 16.4% for years (13% sales tax, 3.4% room tax.)

I don't think is was a COMPLAINT about the rate but rather a request for CLARIFICATION of the rate.

Here in Los Angeles
LA is not San Jose and comparing CR prices to prices in the States is what leads to overpaying. CR is CR and what you pay should reflect that.

Piroca, we are not talking about Los Angeles. There is no reason to be "thankful". What are are you talking about?

Pegaking, I stayed at the Amon Plaza in November. The rooms are great. Nixon is extremely courteous and helpful.

But about the rate: 49*1.23 = 60.27. Not $65.

I can SWEAR I paid $55 a night. I paid Nixon in cash, and I don't have the receipt. But I specifically remember handing him $400 for an 8 night stay, and being surprised to hear the price quoted a little higher than $400. He said the price included tax, I handed him some more money, but it was not $120 more. I am 95% sure of that. I know the price with tax ended in a 5, but I am at least 95% sure I paid $55 a night. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. And I only played in the Casino once, and that was my last night when they finally had a poker game going.

Anyway, if the price was $65 I would still stay there. I sometimes got the feeling that certain employees were not happy about me bringing in chicas, but the staff and rooms are both great. Also, there are no chica fees. There is only a charge for a guest if you are giving someone else a key, so no guest fees unless you are crazy.

I also got my laundry done there. I remember it was $2 for each pair of socks, which I thought was a little high. But in Beverly Hills its probably higher.

In fact, I just found my receipt I have from when I paid my outstanding balance at the hotel. The room charges are not listed because I paid them in the casino. These are the charges for laundry and the minibar (hey I was thirsty) which I paid the receptionist when leaving. Tax is listed as 13%. The subtotal was 20427 colones (lot of laundry I guess) and the tax was 2656, which is 13%. $49 * 1.13 = $55.37. I am pretty damn sure they charged me $55 for the room.

I haven't stayed at the Hotel Amon Plaza so I post this info only for informational purposes.

The descriptions for a standard and junior suite are the same so I guess it must be the size.

These are their rates from their website. Interpret them as you will:
All amounts are in US$.

Valid from January 1 until December 31, 2005
................................ Single....... Double
Standard Deluxe......$120.00.......$135.00
Junior Suite..............$145.00.......$160.00
Suite Deluxe.............$180.00.......$200.00
Master Suite.............$250.00.......$265.00
Additional party..........$20..............$20

Green Season Special (upon request) - Valid From July 1st to December 31st, 2004
(yes, I know it says 2004)

SINGLE/ DOUBLE
Standard Deluxe USD $ 99.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Junior Suite USD$129.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional Adults $15.00

BREAKFAST INCLUDED Rates plus 16.39% tax per night. USD$2.00 Bellboy service, per room. USD$1.00 Maid service, per day. Ch*ldren under 12: Free

Dinner or lunch : $15.00 + 23% Taxes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So with the CRT VIP discount and discounts for casino play it's still not a bad deal.
I am curious about the difference in price from weekends to weekdays as their regular rates don't change.

The difference between the room tax (16.39%) is that is the 13% sales tax plus the 3.9% room tax. The Dinner or lunch tax (23%) is the 13% sales tax plus the 10% service fee that is usualy added to your food cost in CR

Has anyone seen the studio rooms at the Amon Plaza? Do they have queen size beds? Are they as nice as the studio rooms at the Presidente? I will be in CR from 1/29 through 2/21 and need to find a reasonalby priced place to stay. I had resevations for a Vista Linda apartment, but found out recently that due to current residents extending their stays, they will not have room for me until 2/15.
