I'm heading to Jaco next week but my flight home is very early on Sunday morning so I thought I'd spend the one night in San Jose and leave early Monday. I stayed at the SL a few years ago (enjoyed it)but haven't been back since. I thought I'd give it a try again, if I can get a room. Is the place totally dead on a Sunday night for chicas? If it's booked, what's another good option to check into? Also, how long does it take to get to the airport early on a Monday morning? Thanks for the input! Haven't been to San Jose in a few years (just Jaco) so I'm a little rusty on the current state of affairs.

Sunday nights in general are slow in every local "in the Gulch" especially during the months of July & August. You can try DR but most likely it will be slow Sunday night.

My recent stay included a couple of Sundays at SL. The first one was pretty dead, but that was after the big June birthday bash the night before, so it stands to reason that the next day would be slow. The following Sunday started out slow but got reasonably busy later on (after 9pm). In fact there were 3 little dark skinned spinners that I would have done in a heartbeat had I not already made plans!! :D

Sounds like it will likely be slow or the DR is the place to go. But you never know I guess.

Is there a better hotel option than SL?

For sure, Sundays don't start out early. I hung out at Scores on my last night (Sunday night) just earlier this week. I had walked around to SL a couple of times as well as HDR and Relax, with nothing much happening. Surprisingly, there were some decent indies who ventured into Scores throughout the night. I was not partaking (too bad, in hindsight), but there were some decent options. Maybe you can stay at Scores and if you don't find anything to your liking, it's a quick and easy cab ride to HDR later on.

My trip to the airport on Monday took about 20-25 minutes with normal traffic. I've always gotten through the CR airport quickly and had plenty of time to get something to eat before my plane left.

Slow Sundays is one of the reasons I live in Costa Rica. Most people, (including working girls) take Sunday off to spend time with friends and family. You will see the parks full of families on Sunday. Kinda like it used to be in the USA.

Saturdays and Sundays in the parks are great times to try and meet up with the regular girls. It's also a great way to determine how many little ones that they are caring for. Just watch yourself and don't do anything creepy or illegal.

How does Scores compare to SL in the room department? Does the Hotel Presidente allow amigas to visit? Thanks for all the input.

Both ScoreS and SL have very nice rooms. Many SL rooms are bigger and more elaborate than the ScoreS rooms, but they will be higher priced. Generally, the ScoreS rooms are cheaper, especially with some of the "specials" that they run.

At both properties, many rooms do not have windows and some can be noisy until the bar closes. Those things have never bothered me, but they may be important to you. If so, ask about them when you make a reservation.

A BIG advantage at ScoreS is that you get one of the girls from their line-up for an hour in your own room, any time before 7 pm, for $35 if you are staying at Scores.

The Presidente does NOT allow guests in your room UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Reinforcing the NO

What's worse, for months, they lied about it - you could not get a straight answer from them - forget this place

Thanks. I stayed at SL a few years ago in the Mansion wing and thought the room was pretty nice. I don't recall Scores being on the radar at the time. I does look like SL is a bit more expensive than Scores. I might just go with what I know at this point.

Last Sunday and Sunday night was great at the Cocal. San Jose is slow, too bad. No traffic problems going from Jaco to SJO early morning. I do it all the time with the fellows. 1:10 -1:15 to the airport.

My group are all leaving around noon on Sunday, while my departure back to LA is at 7:00ish. I don't want to ruin Saturday night in Jaco to wake up or stay up to leave at 4 AM to make the flight. Figured one night in San Jose would be a little easier. But if SJO is that slow and sub-par these days, maybe I should re-think this. It sounds like Cocal has really hurt the scene in the Gulch of late.

For a 7 am departure from SJO on Sunday morning, a taxi ride from the gulch should be less than 30 minutes that early in the morning.

About Saturday night in the gulch.......... IMHO, all of the talk about it being dead is not quite true. Surely, it is not as busy as in prior years. But there is still plenty of availability unless you are extremely picky. The only exception may be in the early-to-mid morning.

Wherever you stay on a Saturday night, if it's dead there, you can always bring one back from the Rey. If SL is already booked, ScoreS, Zona 2, Mona Lisa, The Rey, The Morazan, and Hotel Castillo are good alternatives.
