We checked Orlando, same price, don't know about Tampa, check on Spirit's website. In 2007 thru 2009 when I lived in San Jose and flew home to Ft Laud every three months I always payed $200 round trip, one time due to my $9 club membership, I scored a special for $130. maybe prices will go down when we build the Keystone Pipeline.....

It appears you need to plan a few months in advance. For almost the whole month of September, JetBlue from FLL is $302 r/t.

No direct flights from Tampa to San Jose. From TPA, you either go thru Ft. Lauderdale on Spirit, or thru Miami on American. From 1999 to 2001 or so, Condor flew direct from Tampa to SJO. The flight originated in Frankfurt Germany, to TPA, then on to SJO. It was great! I flew them quite a few times. They even served a nice hot meal :)

Best price I find jet blue from orlando non stop is about 388 , spirit 276 with stop in fll , tampa gets you 8 hour flight includes the lay over, you pick jet blue 6 weeks out or less expect 500+ , I have drove to fll or miami to save some bucks but regret it everytime after gas, tolls, stopping to eat and the dreaded drive home.

Planning is the key to get the best flight price now, what sucks if you buy 6 weeks out that price stays about the same until u get to about a week out ( if you buy jet blue and the price goes down anytime before u fly they refund the difference, have done about 4 times

+100.

Jetblue is great. They still seem to care about customer service.

When I lived in San Jose and flew home every three months I would set up the return flight sometimes almost 3 months in advance so I got the best prices, but now, me and my disorganized crew are lucky to get it together more than a week in advance, this time, 3 weeks in advance was a minor miracle ! :!:

Yeah, I did that one time about ten years ago. Iberia (Spain) had a sale for around $140 RT from Miami to SJO. I would not do it again. As you said, with everything added in, you don't save much money, and that 4-hour drive back wasn't too enjoyable.

Has anyone tried Megabus from Orlando to Miami? On their website, they show four trips a day from Orlando direct to the Miami airport (4 hours 20 minutes) with fares as low as $1. They also go direct from Tampa to the Miami airport. There are no stops on the way, so you can't get to FLL with them.

You don't necessarily need to book 3 months in advance. It also depends on the season. June - August, you definitively need to book very early. Prices drop down considerably after Labor Day.

I got 12 days at the end of August for $ 322 (Jetblue) from FLL to SJO. I booked on June 11.

I suggest that you plug in FLL to SJO on Airfarewatchdog http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/ on your computer. Anytime there is a fare special, you will be the first to know. As far as Tampa, the short answer is no. No direct flights, all are connecting. Only direct flights from Florida is FLL, MIA and MCO. Not much difference on JetBlue or Spirit when considering Orlando (MCO) or Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) . JetBlue is still far and above Spirit in my opinion.
