How much is the room tax now in C.R.? Some places include the tax in their quoted rate and some don't, so it's hard to compare. I never really paid attention before and I don't have any old hotel receipts laying around. I did a lot of searching on the web and mostly got a ton of hits about the exit tax but couldn't find anything that's current on the room tax.
Gracias maes.

For the record 13% is the room tax for Costa Rica. Most places do not quote the prices including tax, but some due. So just ask. So you can make you own comparison.

One more thing to remember is that many places will not charge you room tax if you pay cash.
So remember to ask about that too before you make your decision.
Also weekly rate may be lower then a rate for 3 or 4 days.

I'm heading down in July. Which ones can I avoid tax on if paying cash? I know this is a hard question since we don't want them to get in trouble.

Just call the reception desk and ask if there's a discount for paying for the full stay at check-in with U.S. dollars.

They don't have to say (and you don't have to ask) what the reason is for the discount.

CASH IS KING.
