Heading to CR June 20-24. Was wanting to stay at Cocal first two nights then heading to the DR but all they have are rooms facing the parking lot. Anyone have any input on these rooms? Any help appreciated! Thanks |

Any help appreciated! Thanks This is an excellent Blog article, written by MH, about Jaco and the Cocal. It might answer the question by the OP. http://miamiheller.com/post/51606064661 ... costa-rica cheers, Attila |

Great advice one post up. MH is "The Man" and any/all advice he gives is to be listened to. IMHO, there is very little difference in the rooms be it poolside, ocean view or parking lot except for the view. Some of my clients like the parking lot rooms because as the girls start walking in they can sit out in front of their room and get first choice ![]() The parking lot rooms are also probably the quietest during the evening as the ocean makes a lot of noise 24/7, the party around the pool makes sleep impossible between 5pm-12am but the parking lot has little traffic and none of it the loud kind. Only time it can get noisy in those rooms is around 11:30pm when they start shutting things down with a steady stream of guys/girls passing by. The most distant room is probably less than 40 yards from the pool and 60 from the beach so no big thing there. |

I emailed them 3 days ago for a reservation and have heard nothing back. Must be nice. Guess I will check out Morgans Cove. |

Something weird about the Cocal Reservation Staff. About 8 months ago I tried to make email reservations with the CRT Discount and I received an email back from some knucklehead that said we don't have nothing to do with CRT. When I asked Admin to look into it, he said he would but I never received an update from Admin on it, so I said Phuck it and reserved my normal stay at the Wyndham Gardens in Escazu to wife up with my favorita instead. Then I received an email a few months ago from another knucklehead from Cocal that they were going to charge me for not showing up for my reservation which I never made. I never gave them my credit card so I just ignored it and never heard back. Weird. They will never get my business, that is for damn sure!! |

Once before I called and made the reservation. But their website says to email them so I did. If that Morgans cove deal is $70, think I will do that. Half the price and place looks nice. Anyone stay there yet? |

Morgan's Cove is a very nice place but it will have a LOT of Tico families so you won't be able to get loud, stay up late or create any kind of 'scene' at the hotel. Only other drawback I can think of is the taxi ride to Cocal which will run about 1K or more. You are fine to walk it during the day but way to far to walk at night. On the plus side, it has a good (but pricey) bar and restaurant on the premises and does allow 'guests'. The property is well landscaped, has beach access, several pools and some neat wildlife. There is usually a crocodile in the 'river' on one side of the property along with a lot of the famous 'Jesus' lizards, the ones that run on top of the water. The almond trees also host a large population of the Red Macaws which are beautiful but very noisy. On Cocal, e-mail with them is almost useless...a call is the only way to get in touch with them. |

Any help appreciated! Thanks If you are able to book one, it is absolutely the best value room at the Cocal. It's the quietest, cheapest and you get to watch the parade for your table and chair outside your room every night. Might even get a free lap dance. |

Just booked a room there for Saturday just after Halloween via the 877 number. Took several tries over two days to get an answer. The lady then did speak English, took my info., emailed me, I emailed back and received a confirmation with CRT discount clearly shown....$90 poolside room(I have a special reason for wanting poolside), and all in all was no more difficult than the usual reservation anywhere. I stayed in Jaco for nearly a month in 1978, and ate a nice steak dinner and had a bottle of wine at the Cocal which was very small then. My 3 year old daughter fell asleep in her plate after swimming all day at the Best Western and then slept on a small couch or bench in their reception area. She is 40 now and I have a 21 y/o grandson from her who always begs o accompany me to Costa Rica. Makes me wonder what the K*D knows! Keep trying on the Cocal and you will eventually get the reservation made! |

One thing about making Cocal reservations...let them know up front you are a CRT VIP. Had a client today who they tried to deny the discount because he didn't tell them when he made the reservation. After jumping through some hoops and talking to three different 'managers' he was finally given the discount. Desk guy even tried to tell him the Costa Rica Ticas card wasn't a CRT card. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
