I was in town for 3 days over the Super Bowl weekend and everything I checked was already full (SL, Amistad, Dunn Inn). Noticed the advertisement banner here for the Costa Rica Condos, and by some miracle the dates I needed were still open!

Location: Calle 3 @ Ave 9, I could see Zona II out of my window. Easy to get to although cab drivers suspiciously couldn't seem to find it on the first try.

I stayed in unit 412 (I think they have more than one) which is a 2 BR, 2 Bath with a huge main living room, full service and equipped kitchen, multiple TVs, Wifi, etc. Very nice modernized accommodations, huge shower that is big enough for 3. 24/7 security, chica friendly with no issues, and the property manager is very helpful and nice. Can even rent an I-phone for your trip.

The only downside is the traffic noise. Its all hours of the day and night, so if you're a light sleeper, bring some good ear plugs! Rates are advertised on their site, and there's a CRT special. You do have to leave a security deposit in cash, and you do need to pay the full bill upon check-in, so be aware.

I'd definitely stay there again. It's a 5 block walk to SL (don't do it at night, you have to run the tranny hooker guantlet starting around 6 or 7pm).

Just be careful walking at night…..the "girls" are out in force right there at night.

Hence my warning not to walk at night. LOL

I NEVER had a problem "right there" and never saw a tranny "right there". The cab will drop you right at the door, and you have a key to let yourself into the front door of the building. Lock behind you and you're fine.

Anyone else ever stayed in unit 412 of the Costa Rican condo? I haven't seen any other recent reports, they are a new CRT sponsor, looks like it could be a good option?

Look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=44600
Some rather bad experiences with the owners/managers of this property.

Yes, I've seen that, thanks. Wondering if anyone else has tried staying there? Pics look good but at that price seems too good to be...

No matter where I've stayed in San Jose, traffic noise has been an issue - if I was building a place in San Jose, I'd put in hurricane impact windows, but the issue is because of the great climate, you want the windows open - the noise sucks; its one of the downsides to staying in San Jose (but other things make up for it)

Truly.....if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs, take a sleeping pill (prescription or over the counter, or even herbal).

Lets list the annoyances you can expect (better say will encounter, b/c while you may not hit all on the list, you will hit more than a couple       ) to encounter staying downtown San Jose:

Motorcycles - they are charged less in registration fees for a smaller engine, and they make up for it by over revving what they do have - very annoying; like a dentist drill

Car Alarms - whether they are being towed, or stolen, you will very frequently hear alarms

Street noise - from people walking, or talking loudly on the street, to trucks - you will hear it all

Bar noise - while not open all night <thank god> bars think nothing of blasting their music until they close.

Whores and their shoes - yup - the little cunts pound up and down the street, probably trying to attract attention.

Car horns - all night, every nigh - let a car be a nano second late in taking off from a green light, and the horns start.

For a society that in general prides itself on its manners, you would not know it based on the nonsense you endure staying downtown San Jose.

I also thought that was indeed the case, until I stayed in the Toro Negro room in the Mansion Wing at the SL. It was so quiet, I thought I was in a morgue. Nice :D
Of course, I'm used to staying at the Morazan, which is the worse hotel in San Jose for street noise. My days of staying at the Morazan are over. You can't beat the location, but I can no longer put up with the noise, which lasts ALL night. It wasn't so bad until they opened up part of the Key Largo and had that DJ blaring his 'noise'. Then, about a year ago, the bar between Papi's and the Baja Beach club opened (I can't think of the name of it). The 'music' there lasts until 3:00 in the morning (until almost 5:00 on the weekends). Combine that with the numerous car alarms going off, the motorcycles, etc. and it's unbearable. I tried switching to other sides of the hotel, but that didn't help. Earplugs did help a little, but I really don't like wearing earplugs every night.

It was better a few weeks ago - but I'm w/ you - that one bar between Papis and the beach club is downright obnoxious in the noise it spewes :P :P :P

I was also there in October, and I said never again - it was THAT bad - San Jose will never be a quiet city for the reasons I mentioned previously, but no reason it has to be torture.

Well that's too bad. I was giving some thought to staying there in the future. Were 'guests' making that much noise
