Hey all! First post here ![]() How's the wifi at the hotels generally? Any favorites for reliability and speed? I'd have to get some work done on the laptop while I was there, and I'm used to some pretty quick speeds at home. More important is to be somewhere central, easy, and friendly, but good wifi is a very close second. I don't mind spending a little more on the room to keep comfortable, and to keep me out of trouble with work ![]() Thanks all for all the great past info!! |

In the rooms I find the connection to be pretty spotty at times, so if you need a reliable connection its probably best to find a private table and sit in the lobby/bar where would will probably be closer to the wireless router. I'm speaking about SL and LA from experience. |

Amistad or Dunn if you need a good place and quiet and be able to do business too. |

At the hotel you chose, call ahead and see if they have wall plug for internet available that you can plug a USB cable into. That may make the signal more stable and strong. |

La Amistad has ethernet jacks in each room. They also have CAT5 cables if you request one, but you'd be wise to travel with your own just to be sure. I have never had download or upload problems of any sort and that includes streaming slingbox and Netflix off of a dual core processor laptop. I understand Matt (owner of hotel la Amistad) "upped" his bandwidth package since my last trip, so that pipe may be even fatter. Relative to the Sportsman's: I've never stayed there, so I cannot testify to connectivity in the rooms. However, I can comment about connectivity via Wi-Fi in the bar area: Very strong signal; very solid connection; 5+ megs down. Again, I don't know what it is in the bedroom. You will not find Google fiber and 1gig down. Too, be very careful about using public machines in hotel lobbies or machines in cyber cafes: The bulk of them are loaded with malware and keystroke loggers. When I walking about one afternoon, I tested every "public" computer I came across and, easily, 90% of them were infected, phoning home to God knows where. I used KillDisk on each of those machine. Woops. DrewD3 wrote: How's the wifi at the hotels generally? Any favorites for reliability and speed? Whether one uses the freeware or storebought software, trust me, it will do what it is expected of it (DESTROY the hard drive AND other sections/sectors), and with but one pass. Isn't the idea to compel the Grade C "hacker" to do some work like reformat the drive (unless KillDisk REALLY did a number on the old school hard drive.....not one of the solid state babys'......and totally destroyed sectors on the hard drive as well created "bumps" throughout the platter????); reinstall drivers; get, somehow, reconnected to the internet, etc., etc., etc.? The "public computers" at the Del Rey are great fun: Rather than run KillDisk, I install my own keylogging (proprietary) software and my my my my!!!!!!! I love forwarding emails from Daddy; email Mommy that he's doing fine on his fishing trip, but also including a copy or three of the various emails Mr. MackDaddy has sent to SJO strumpets (favoritas); all of which include CR cell phone numbers AND Mr. Genius' throw away SJO number; and also include instructions to the wounded bambi back in the USA how to dial the number. I learned all about "....honor amongst thieves...." a long time ago: There isn't any...... I figure the two deserve each other hahahahahaahahahahahahahahahaha It IS fun being me!
