Been a while since I fly into Bogota CO airport on my way to Mde. I see that they have a new airport.
I be coming in red eye from (6 am arrive) Houston on United airline and then right back out on Avianca 9310 ( 950am) and then repeating this same route on the way home .

any tips on the new airport will be nice
Does Bogota have wifi?

Any thing special about getting from customs to where I drop my checked bag off for Avianca ?

On my way out in MDE I always had to hit the departure window with my passport to make sure something was paid, will I have to do that again in MDE for the short up to Bogota on my way home? The again in Bogota?

I went through Bogota in September, a lot of nice improvements. Immigration is quick, and as you exit immigration, there is an in-bound duty free store. The baggage area is new. A DIAN official collects the customs forms. If he thinks your bags need to be examined further, there is a bank of X-Ray machines. If you are connecting to a continuing flight or codeshare, there will be no need to collect and recheck your bags. Just walk through the baggage claim with your carry-on and turn in your customs declaration. You will claim your checked bags in Medellin. When I was there in September, Avianca connecting flights were still departing from the old Aero Puente terminal. If this is still the case, you will need to take the shuttle.

"no need to collect and recheck your bags." Ok a little confused, so when might they then "checked my bag?"
Most airports require you to claim your bag, go through customs, then hand your bag back to the airline fro the domestic part of the trip, so I will not have to do that now? Will they do this then in MDE
Little worried here that my bag will be in Bog when I am now in MDE and looking for it, that's all

Yes I continuing on with Avianca , were is the shuttle bus then? or just ask ?

The best thing to do is ask when you check in. In the old days, when I would connect with a domestic Avianca flight in Bogota, my bags were checked all the way to Medellin. I would hand in my customs declaration in Bogota, but not collect my bags until I arrived in Medellin. I'm assuming this is still the same procedure with Avianca at the new terminal, but it's best to check with them at your originating airport.

I went through this maze in August so I will tell you.

When you land in BOG, you will most likely get parked in a remote part, away from the ramp, so you'll get put on a bus to take you to the international terminal. There, you will go through immigration, it was pretty dead so it was very fast. They asked where we are coming from, going where, for what reason (answer "vacaciones" no need to say more). Then they will direct you to the domestic connections terminal. Follow the signs for domestic connections, the signage is pretty good. You will go into an area where you will wait for a bus to take you to the domestic terminal. Don't be scared, it's like a basement and it's kind of creepy in there but you'll see some other people waiting. That area looks like a typical 3rd world airport. The doors to the outside will be closed. Then an airport employee will open them and tell you to get on the bus.

Once you get to the domestic terminal, you'll have to go through security. Very light security, no need to remove anything. Then, look for your flight in the waiting area. Once your flight is called, you'll be put on another bus to take you to the plane. It's a complete clusterfuck.

On the way back, once we landed in BOG and got bussed to the int'l terminal, I somehow missed immigration and walked way out of the way. Follow the signs.
