What's the deal w this place? Anybody stayed there? Chica fees? Quality of food? Do they have a bar? The location seems great but I haven't seen any word of mouth on the place. Chime in (as I know you will!) |

Well, since there are many posts about RTFF , I will just say that since you have over 170 posts .......come on man , in the time it took you to write your post all of your questions would of been answered or just going to hotel's web site would of answered 90% of them. The deal with this place, I don't think it would be a good fit for you, I would suggest you staying at the delrey and never leaving except to take a taxi back to the airport and use the ones waiting right outside the front door. |

Chilimike's second stanza might be a tad harsh, but...+1! Lots of Freebird info on CRT as Chilimike stated, but here's a related July 2013 post of mine from another board (not sure why I didn't post it on CRT as well): Staying at the Hotel Freebird right now as I'm writing this. Dennis, the owner, has done an excellent job of restoring this "old house" (actually, it was an office building originally) into an immaculately clean and viable alternative to the hustle and bustle of the much larger gringo gulch hotels. The Freebird consists of two very nicely equipped ground floor suites with their own private bathrooms and five other rooms that share two large, modern, spotlessly clean bathrooms. These five rooms are spread out on three floors: room 3 on the first, rooms 4 & 5 on the second, and rooms 6 & 7 on the third. Despite the two-floor truck to the banos, I'm a big fan of rooms 6 & 7. They are the only two rooms with AC, due to a roof that sucks up the heat of the sun. All 7 rooms are equipped with ceiling fans, refrigerators and very nice wood-based furnishings. The queen-sized beds are highly comfortable with excellent mattresses. The hi-speed wifi is consistently SUPERB throughout the building. Dennis also offers a computer in the ground-floor common area that has a magic jack connection, meaning calls to the US are FREE. There is also a coffee maker and microwave in the common area, and Dennis also provides inroom coffee makers at no extra charge. The rooms are somewhat removed from the street but you will still hear some street noise that can be greatly reduced with a good set of earplugs. Suites 1 & 2 do share a common door like interconnecting rooms in traditional hotels, and things can get a little noisy if you have an inconsiderate neighbor. I have stayed on multiple occasions at the Sportsmens Lodge, Hotel Castillo, Hotel La Amistad, and the Dunn Inn, and I can honestly say that the Freebird is the quietest place I have ever stayed in San Jose. Here's the kicker: prices are incredibly reasonable. With my CRT discount, I paid a total of $400 for my current 10-day stay. That's $40 per night, all taxes included. On top of all this, Dennis is a really nice guy and a very helpful and gracious host. Although he seems to have settled down somewhat, he is essentially "one of us." No chica fees, of course! Room rates might have increased a bit since this post. They are clearly posted on his web site. |

The location is great you can walk to the DR in 3-4 minutes and the mps are very close . It takes me 8-9 minutes to walk to the SL.I ever have to use ear plugs but I always wake up around 5. |
