Sleep Inn great choice, one of the nicest places in SJ, newer Americdan grade chain, free bk and good, about $75-90, but $35 chica fee. If you've got a reg, make the reservation on line for 2 people and check in with her. Takes care of that. Get a room 3rd floor in the middle facing the DelRey, very, very quiet. Or stay there and take your bar pick up's to a new decent cheapie a few blocks S of the DR, Hotel Queen, for $10? short term. Re: The ML, sorry for the employees, especially Guy who has catered to many of us over time and seem to be moving up when he landed and helped open the ML. At least the 2nd time that's happened at that location. Word was they weren't even making salary. That one will be standing there vacant again for a long, long time. |

No surprise they are closed , its not a good sign when the 2 previous hotels that were there closed down. |

This is Tom the owner of the Mona Lisa. As many of you know I bought the hotel out of bankruptcy. There are people in town who wish we weren't here. It appears one of those people paid a crooked government employee (I know big shocker in Costa Rica) to use this old lien to shut the hotel down without giving us notice. First, let me tell you what happen this morning. There was an old tax lien (the paperwork says from 2009, which is over 3 years before I became involved) from the previous owner the tax authority came in to do an administrative closure. We should have been given notice but weren't. If we had been given notice we would have had our lawyers appeal the closure and would have never been closed. The closure is for 5 days. My Attorneys are working on an appeal as we speak but they say the soonest we could possibly be back open is Friday. Monday at 10am is the longest we could be closed. If anyone tells you anything else they are misinformed or don't know what they are talking about. I will keep everyone informed of any new info. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this causes anyone. P.S. Gersen, I am not sure who you got "the word" from that we were not paying our people their salary, but it is a lie. As for being the 2nd time this has happened they tried it once before we opened but were dumb enough to give us notice so we quashed it. Not only has every employee gotten paid but they all just got their Christmas Bonus on Monday. Feel free to ask any of them! If you or whoever you got the word from need more information, I am staying at the Zona II come on by and I will be happy to enlighten you. |

Sorry that you are having problems, and that the "500lb gorilla up the hill" may be causing them. Your efforts to make the ML a going concern are admirable, and I really hope that the CRT guys will continue to support it. Here's to getting back up and running soon. |

Glad to see you finally posted on your board, hopefully you can get this cleared up promptly and have a prosperous new year. Your place is great for the gulch and I always recommend it, check my posts. Thought it was a great move when you bought it and put Guy in place, and had it priced right "most" of the time. The rest of the bar/food/internet/bed/front desk phone complaints were growing pains which you were resolving. The "second time" I was refering to was the ML hotel closing under prior name(s). You know who told me about the salary issues. You're giving the 500 lb gorilla way too much credit. |

Sleep Inn is an option, but the $35 chica fee is a bit rough, especially if you are a multiple chica guy during your week . They also have a free shuttle service from/to the airport but with limited times. Can't beat the location--you might only have to walk 100 feet during your entire vacation. ![]() |

Chica fees Sleep Inn 7 days X $35 =$245. love hotel $70. Delrey elevator fee if you are staying there $15X= $105. Other hotels mentioned on this board, 0 chica fees. MPs are even cheaper. Chica fees if you marry them, unlimited. |

Here's my 2 cents worth. We all need to be positive and have hope that the M.L. will get this handled asap. Those of us who live here, know all too well, what can happen because of this government and jealous owners of other establishments. It doesn't take much to piss one person off, for them to make trouble for you. One Lucky Dogg this and other establishments in the gulch area. Onward brother Tommy. |
