Post subject:  AA cutting back on flights from MIA to SJO

I fly into SJO from MIA. I was there this past July for about a week. I usually book through AA. In the past, AA has always had about three or four flights a day on this route. I was thinking of booking another trip for mid-October and was perusing their website when I noticed they are now offering only two flights into SJO for that time period. Obviously, they are cutting capacity (due to apparent decreased demand.) Round trip pricing remains about the same, 400 U$D. Is this an AA "problem" or has anyone noticed similar scheduling reductions on their routes in and out of SJO on the airlines they use?

All airlines servicing the SJO market adjust their schedules to meet demand.

During GREEN season rainy season you'll see frequency reductions.

During DRY high season you'll notice frequency increases.

The Florida to SJO market has changed recently.

In addition to American serving SJO non-stop from Miami;

JetBlue recently added new non-stop service from Ft. Lauderdale (FLL)

Additionally Spirit has non-stop service as well from FLL.

Additional competition from south Florida might lower fares.

You now have jet blue and spirit flying to sjo for about half that price. AA decided to cut a couple of flights instead of lowering prices.

I think it might be a seasonal thing. September and October are the rainiest rainy months.

See what happens in December. These days, they want to fly 90+% full, not 60% full, or they lose money.

And also, airlines want to overbook above their capacity like 120% or above. So they can bump people if everyone shows up and fly to the 100% of their capacity.

$272.41 r/t on Jetblue, for mid October flights.

I took JB last month through FLL and going was smooth as silk but coming back FLL is a real cluster Phuck. The immigration line was like 150 deep. I have Global Entry but my wife and K*ds don't so I was forced to stand there. Get Global Entry if connecting through FLL.

Also, you have to walk out of one terminal go out in the phucking heat and find the next terminal and go through security again.

But this is not a JB issue. JB rocks. They gives you a snack and a non-alc drink free. And you have 39 channels of direct Tv at each seat. Once you leave US territory, directTV shuts off but there are 3 "JB Feature" movies available for free (domestic flights $6 each).

They don't see food per se, but they do sell these packets which have like crackers, almonds, cheese, various other crap. No worth it. For $6 you get 3 cheese pieces, about 6 crackers, and a small bag of almonds.

From Enrique's daily e-paper QCostaRica which is worth a peek. Ticos Air has filed for certification to fly internationally. I know there are a few airline guys on the board so maybe they can expound on what that really means in terms of "if and when". Their goal is to pick up flights TACA dropped when it got gobbled up by its mother, Avianca, including the non-stop to LA. Right now they are aiming for the non stop to Mexico which makes me think there are other things involved to be able to fly to the US. The airline guys on the board can probably clarify.
