Hey all,
I did a search and found prices for the Summer months, but what about the Fall time?
I'm guessing around 50 bucks a night?
I do hate staying in this shit hole, but you really can't beat the convenience/location to everything.

Don't book the hotel directly. Sometimes you could get an extra 15-20% through Orbitz.com when they have their monthly specials for hotels. If you book your flight through Expedia or Orbitz, you could combine the flight with a hotel. I believe the Morazan and Dunn Inn are some of the options. It's cheaper than booking the room directly with the Morazan.

This past summer, I booked a flight with Expedia without a hotel. A day later, they offer me the Morazan for $30/night but I have to take their offer within 72 hrs. Currently Orbitz is having one of their hotel specials with an extra 15% off selected hotels. Here's the link http://www.orbitz.com/travel-deals/excl ... romo-code/ Just remember to put in the promo code when you do your search for hotels.

The Morazan is great for their location and basic amenities. I would take a look at the all-inclusive at L'Amistad and Matt is a great host. The ML has a special till the end of the year for $50 but you must book directly with Guy.

cheers,
Attila

Yes...a little

(The elevator can be flakey, there is one computer, the printer never seems to work, and some find the bell man, "Rickey Ricardo" annoying - just some of the charms of the place - many found it smokey in the past, but w/ the indoor ban, that is not a problem. There are lots of Chinese gamblers in the casino, all dressed up in their polyester finery, with their charactistic scowls of non welcome..........)

But as pointed out, if you like that location (and please don't tell me you do solely b/c of its prox. to the Delrey - there are so many better options) its a good choice.

I just stayed there a few weeks ago, I believe I paid $52 and change w/ breakfast and the safe, tax included - as pointed out sometimes there are on line specials, which for some odd reason even if you mention them when there in person, they will not extend to you (I mean that they are paying a fee to Orbitz, Expedia, whoever - so why not extend the discount and not have to pay the fee - but this is far too much logic to apply sometimes in Costa Rica). They did give an extended stay discount; I was there 6 nights.

Whatever and whoever you book through MAKE SURE YOU REQUEST - STRONGLY - AN OUTSIDE ROOM. (Some are inside and do not have an outside window)

I've stayed there probably 10 or 12 times, b/c I prefer that part of town - if you are looking for nicer rooms (I'd only stay at there for the basic, standard room) lots better choices, some mentioned in this thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the feeling you may be fairly new to Costa Rica - if this is the case, you should consider staying at the Sportsmans Loge, or perhaps Scores or Zona 2.

Simply b/c you stand a better chance of meeting guys who can guide you through CR and perhaps answer questions about San Jose. You will soon weed out the "drugstore cowboys" and those who think they know - but really don't have a clue
Just a suggestion.

Good luck :)

I have stayed there twice, both times booked through Orbitz, and both times on the 4th floor.

Room 407 is a balcony room, overlooking Avenida 1 ... you cannot sleep past 6am. The noise from the non-insulated 'balcony' is overwhelming. Both times I was assigned that room, but the second time I asked Ricky to move me, and he put me in 414. It faces Parque Morazan, but the A/C system blocks most of the window. This actually means it is quiet. I will ask for this room again.

Room 412 is also decent, and overlooks Calle 9, and has views to the park as well. Stay away from the rooms that overlook Key Largo, unless you are awake until 4am naturally.

Can't disagree at all

San Jose is not a place for lite sleepers but the noise lately at the Morazon (I think between Baja Beach bar and the Key Largo) is over the top; I may find other accomodations next trip - its that bad :!:

Lots of great information, i really appreciate all the advice. I've stayed here just about every trip. You'd think this place would upgrade just a little, little bit. But, every time it's the same blankets, same tv's, same non working remote controls, same tired ugly red tables, and the same Ricky. Hadn't been here in about 2 years, but last time i was there they had a beautiful woman at the front desk with a very nice set of tits on her. I wonder if she's still there? I think her name is Viviana. Thanks again gentlemen for the great responses and tips.

Yes, she is there, as is Ricky

One of the "ponderables" is why indeed they don't do some upgrades, given their location, etc.

You will find little to nothing has changed since your last trip including all the annoyances you mentioned!

Just got back from 7 days @ Morazon . There have been a lot of upgrades on the 5th floor. The breakfast is now cooked on the 2nd floor which is better. I have stayed here since 2002 and it's not the best but the most convenient to all downtown activities. We ate 3 meals at the Aminstad (sp)which wee excellent.

You may have got me (maybe not as I still do not think the guy is anymore than maybe one of the 2 Tico employees there and is posting without the owner's knowledge nor consent). I know the owner and the posts are just not at all his style!!

But I got you on this one!! jejejeje Superman IS a TICO 100% except that he has lived in the states for most of his life. He just retired from the Air Force after severing 20+ years on active duty. He has duel citizenship. Much of his family live here in SJ; in fact his main reason for this trip is his grandmother is very sick. He has been coming here 2-3 times a year for many years, knows SJ better than I do, naturally he speacks fluent Spanish including all the "Tico slang" and almost always stays at the Morazon. he was just enquiring about the prices at that time of year as he could not find anything on the net.!!! Like you and I, he and I spend at least one day together checking out places every time he is here and have for at least 7-8 years.

Hey Royboy,
Thanks for the intro. However, i think Scuba1 was referring to that Easter dude's post. I'm assuming Suba1 isn't the same as Scubabum? It's been awhile since i've been on here. I've just been going to DR like crazy. Nothing beats Sosua as far as i'm concerned. But i do love my country, and my family, so i need to head back there soon. Probably 12 Novemberish time frame. Send me your number on a PM and i'll call you sir. It will be nice to hang out with you (if you have time). :o

Superman, Sorry about posting all that info on the open form. It was suppose to be a PM to Scuba1. 2nd time recently that has happened. Not sure whether this old fart is having brain lapses or it is something in the CRT program. Have heard of it happening to one or two others. Will send you my # hopefully in a PM and not on the open board.

Nope - 2 different people :)

I've been giving my good friend Bang Bang some crap on another issue (not knowing that a guy who just joined CRT with like 4 posts, every one of them just raving about the MP Candyland was one of the owners     - no one - not even the guys who wanted suck a certain managers you know what at a certain MP with a cigar shop in the front, a couple of years ago.....is capable of that much hero worship     :)

And yes, Bang is wrong again (at least he is very consistent) :P :P :?   :) - while I did not know your background, the comment about being new to CR was not directed at you :) :) :)
