Ok.. Here is my first review in years!!! I have stayed at the sportsmens, I have stayed at HLH, del Rey and even stayed at the mona lisa but I have yet to experience the kind of value as my recent stay at the Hotel La Amistad.

Here are the details. I stayed for 2 nights and took advantage of the ALL INCLUSIVE package.

Now to be honest when I first heard of the all inclusive the first thing that popped in my mind was a buffet style set up with the same repetitive foods sitting for hours in those aluminium trays like in the buffet Chinese places back home. :( :(

NO WAY JOSE!!

The food at La Amistad is excellent and probably the best food downtown and I don't say this lightly and I have NOTHING to gain by saying so. 8)

I had this 3 inch thick delicious pork chop, and also had the ribs. I wish I knew how I could post some pictures of the meals. I may do this so people can appreciate better what I am saying here.

Guys.. you can eat anything on the menu!!! And you can drink yourself silly if that is your thing.

personally I am a moderate drinker.

I ate like a king, surf and turf, Porkchops, Chicken and I drank like a warrior. You can order anything on the menu.

here is what I chose:

breakfast: omelette with ham cheese and homefries, coffee and natural juice
Lunch: chicken and mushroom risotto plus a few rum and cokes
Tapas: smoked porkchop and salmon carpacio a few afternoon cocktails
Dinner: surf and turf with a few cocktails. Excellent!!

late night: cocktails cocktails cocktails and a few nacho chips

so for $79 smackeroonies I got to stay at a great place, ate and drank fresh high quality meals to my hearts content.

it reminded me of the old Club Med except with more perks

I know I may have overdone it but shit I am on vacation. :) and I deal with enough stress at home.

Normally the stay at la amistad all by itself is a very good experience but this is a game changer.

Here is an extra perk.

for an additional $50 I can add a guest of which they can drink and eat all they want. I had 2 ticas for todo la noche and they drank and ate like queens and I was thier king. This is of course after the bumping the grownup for a few hours. so for an extra $100 I had 2 girls with me and we had a blast.

I know that once the word on street gets out there will be no rooms so i would suggest booking all future trips at least this year here. Matt just extended this special for the rest of the year.

Those Amistad arms bands will become famous downtown like the yellow popular bands.

Look at a time and I am sure alot of guys that visit here can agree.

Costa Rica in general has risen dramatically in prices especially in the area of entertainment with no additional value correspondingly.

Heck they even get more money from you when you pay the extra exit tax.

And then once in a whileyou see some sort of a special promotion or enticement

and you go to take advantage of it you find all the restrictions that go along with it which makes it more a less a bait and switch.

so this was a nice treat. :) :) :)

I could easily have had a meal ( as previously done) with a tica and a 1 or 2 cocktails and drop $60 just for that one meal at the sportsmens.

I have to say kudos to Matt for ZIGGING when everyone is ZAGGING. And its nice to actually be in a position of enjoying immense value at a time where everyone else is trying to nickle and dime you to death.

I hate nickle and Dime stuff.

thanks for being such a great host.

now if you can just offer free        shuttle back and forth to Jaco- you would be my hero

Danny

Thanks, for sharing your good experience at La Amistad. It looks like LA is where I will be staying on my next trip to SJ.

I don't think Matt is cheap :)

I do think it took alot of Balls to make this move

I also think Matt was sensitive enough to understand the current climate economically.

to me it seems lately in costa rica BUT i guess everywhere else that all they want is my money.!!!!

Customer service is virtually non existent

George from the mona lisa needs to take a few courses on customer service. ;)

Been waiting for an honest review of the all inclusive special. Glad to hear it was all you expected. Looking forward to my trip in a couple weeks.

Just wondering how busy was it?

Matt has been working on the menu selections for a while. He has done a great job. Last month I treated a lovely lady to one of the super pork chops, when we went to the room, as I showered, she removed the icing from a cake a friend had baked for me and covered her body with it. When I came out, dessert was on the bed and ready! I'll be back next week, I definitely want another pork chop!

If Hazel is still there doing massages, get one from her. I am not a big massage lover and most of the girls I have been with here couldn't give a decent massage to save their lives. Hazel delivers a full body (non sex, sorry) professional massage that will blow your mind, and this is coming from a guy who normally turns down massages from the girls, even when sex is completed and we have time to kill....

I just wanted to jump in here and add my two cents to this thread. I'm still here at La Amistad, heading home tomorrow, but I wanted to write this while it's fresh on my mind and I've got a little time while I'm "re-charging my batteries"!

In my opinion, the All-Inclusive special at La Amistad is hands-down the BEST deal anywhere in the gulch. YOU CAN NOT BEAT IT! $79 for queen room, $89 for King Room and $99 for a suite... AND THIS INCLUDES ALL YOUR MEALS AND DRINKS!!! IMO, it's a no brainer.

The chef Jose is remarkable. I've had the surf & turf, the lomito with truffle sauce, the sea bass and the pork chop. And every meal I've eaten has been incredible. This is literally 5-star food! Take it for what it's worth, but I hold a Culinary Arts degree, and I've been cooking my entire life. And when I say the meals are outstanding, it's no bullshit! And then there's the open bar. And that pretty much speaks for itself!

I'd like to thank Matt, Rudy, Jose and all the staff at La Amistad for making my stay here a pleasure. And if anyone is on the fence about staying at La Amistad, don't even think twice. Just DO IT!

Pura Vida,
Mucho Gusto

Thanks, for the reviews guys. It looks like LA has thumbs up across the board. It makes my decision where to stay in the gulch easier.
