A+++ This restaurant was a lovely surprise this trip. Erica our waitress did a splendid job of keeping glasses full, making menu suggestions and in general, making Don Papi', Circus and me feel at home. I had a meatball sub that may be the best sandwich I've ever eaten. The ambience is nice, very open and tranquil, with more than a touch of class and good taste. It is a shame that our meal was somewhat disturbed by a group of "G's" from the U.S.A., gold grilles and all. I guess some guys' mamas never taught them how to behave in public...but fortunately, the foursome left halfway through our meal. The prices are a bit on the high side, but they were on par with other hotel restaurants I've visited in San Jose. I will again return to Rick's to try some of their other dishes, and I was extremely satisfied with the experience. A+++, again. ![]() |

I was informed last night that the chef has left, as has John the General Manager. The food my friend and I had was not as good as just a few days ago. |

Don Papi'...what a shame! This is one little problem I have with the Gulch in general; lack of consistency and continuity. Just when one think's he's found a great restaurant, hotel, driver or chica, things change and often, for the worse. Sad news indeed. Perhaps a certain CRT'er we know drove them away with his cautious and argumentative examination of the bill? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry to hear the bad news, but thanks for commenting and updating me. When I return July 3, where shall we dine? Ideas? Don Papi wrote: I was informed last night that the chef has left, as has John the General Manager. I ate there late 2night after 11P and last night around the same time. Very satisfied both times. Feel bad though that I was the only customer in there. |

Glad I came across this post. Been to the gulch multiple times but last visit was a few years ago. Arrived here yesterday to find Del Ray BM food is horrible. SL is edible. Can't wait to get back to the states. Going to check out Ricks either for dinner tonight or lunch tomorrow. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Hornball- try soda Peru just up the street and on the right from HLH. Great food, and reasonably priced |
