http://thehill.com/blogs/transportation ... continues- Republicans argued that the Obama administration was purposely delaying flights at major airports to win support in the sequester budget fight from frustrated airline passengers. What kind of administration purposely creates havoc and frustration among its own people? Flying is bad enough already without the government purposely making it worse to make political hay. I am not an American, but I connect in Miami in almost all of my flights. If I was an American citizen I would be severally pissed off no matter what my political beliefs are. Devo |

Yeah, but did you read this quote farther on in the article? Quote: The White House angrily denied it was purposely delaying flights to inconvenience airline passengers again on Wednesday. "Let's be clear. The sequester was a law written by Congress. Congress wrote the law. Congress passed the law. Members of Congress should read the law," White House press secretary Jay Carney said. Why be pissed off at Obama? |

Well do you really think that Obamas's press secretary Jay Carney is going to admit to any wrongdoing? For me, as a Canadian, this has absolutely nothing to do about taking sides and everything to do with politicians doing what is best for them and not what is best for the people. I didn't like the last President Bush and I would be writing this post if he was doing the same thing to the flying public. |

Sequester was OBAMAS IDEA! he insisted it be put in the CR Bill before he would sign it thinking it would "light a fire" under congress and it would never really happen. I am a 26 year federal employee, every department has more money than they had last year! were talking about cuts to the FY 2013 increases. We are getting ready to start our department furloughs but yet they gave me 10k to spend on incidentals for the 3rd quarter (paper and pens) for a office of 3 people, that money would cover the furloughs for the 3rd qtr but I cant spend it on that. They won't let me. We just gave 1.5 billion to Egypt but have to lay off our own employees....really???? This is all for political purposes! our government is going to take in the most money in taxes it ever has this year! When Obama took office the federal budget was just over 3 trillion....now its over 4 trillion a 25% increase in just 4 years. Think about that, it took us over 200 years to get to 3 trillion per year and just 4 years to get to 4 trillion. Yes I'm pissed because of my position I can see thru the smoke and mirrors and theres nothing I can do! El O, Carney is saying that to try and distance themselves from this! |

I don't know....I don't really follow US politics, but the bottom line is, Congress could have either amended or not passed it. |

Sorry, but if you think there are many politicians doing what's "best for the people", including in Canada, that's just naive IMO. I don't want this to turn into a political discussion, because they're not allowed here, but no politician does anything unless there's something in it for them. |

This thread is a perfect example of why things are so screwed up in the U.S. Half the people blame the Democrats while the other half blame the Republicans. Meanwhile the politicians are so busy playing the blame game none of them give a dam that the country is falling apart. Who gives a shit who's fault it is or isn't. JUST FIX IT!!! ![]() |

ID Speaks and the Congress listens. This afternoon the Senate agreed to fund the Air Traffic Controllers in full. The bill goes to the House tomorrow. It should pass. This idiocy of a relative saving of .00000000009 of a penny a day on a vital service that affects millions of people worldwide every day to reduce the almost $17 trillion ($16,798,631,139,240.00) debt which grows at $3 billion every day (as per fixthedebt.org) annoyed alot of people. |

I agree that most Canadian politicians are in it for themselves to, but Stephen Harper, Tom Mulcair, or Justin Trudeau would never intentionally sabotage the airports to create delays to frustrate the flyers. I am not an expert on USA politics either but BonePony has given us a first hand testimonial which jibes with most of what I have read. Devo |

I think they'd do it if they thought they could get away with it. Our politicians really aren't any different. |

Because congressmen and women have to fly home to their constituencies, The Congress of the US has passed a bill in 24 hours with a hand written final paragraph at time of senate vote. The FAA got no more money but were allowed to move money from airport improvement accounts to end furloughs for air traffic controllers. The US congress at work, when the American people suffer they do nothing. When congressmen experience the slightest pain, immediate action. Phuck you US Congress. Phuck YOU! |
