It got nailed by the banditos a few weeks ago even though it is gated and with decent security. TRYP is part of the Windham group, also has the 5 star Sabana Tryp in SJ. This week, both the US & Canadia state departments edited their security position for tourists. Canada specifically did not issue an all out country travel advisory, but a diligence caution due to "escalating violent crime". US did the same but narrowed it to the Atlantic if I remember right. |

Here is my rough translation of the ElDiario article linked by DonCarlos. Five masked men assaulted several hotel guests at the Colon Caribbean after they overpowered two guards and demanded the room keys from the receptionist. The victims were a Swiss citizen, two Swedish, and two Costa Ricans who were also victims of assault. Police authorities presume that when the criminals realized that a contingent of local officers were preparing an ambush at the hotel, they fled via the mangroves. According to those affected and the Caribbean Columbus hotel management, the thieves took $755 and ¢350,000, four suitcases with clothes, 3 phones and 2 PCs. Everything belongs to the foreigners.Agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) came to the hotel, where they gathered information and evidence that will lead up to this band, which were thought to be from Limón. (Ya think?) Due to the wave of assaults in the area, residents, businesses and the tourist Security Minister have demanded greater police presence to deal with such incidents. |
