Sportsmens does have girls and is a great place to stay. But, your best selection will be at the Del Rey. You DO NOT want to stay at the Rey, but there are plenty of girls to be had there, to take back to your hotel.

I don't think there is a good answer to this.
Why?
Because from what I have heard from both girls and people who stay there, both the SL and DR are very noisy hotels, not good for sleeping, and those are the only 2 that have any selection of girls right on premises.

My choice is the Morazan which is 1 block from the KL and DR and rooms are clean "enough", $55 a night, good showers in most rooms, nice staff, and I've been staying there for 20 years without ever having a problem. It's not exactly "quiet" but you can ask for one of the more quiet interior rooms if you don't mind not having a window. If you do then ask for one on the quieter side street. In any case no matter what hotel you stay in, in SJose, take ear plugs if you plan to sleep before 3am and after 6am... ;-D

The Europa is a few blocks away, you'd have to take a taxi at night. It's owned by the same owners as Morazan. I can't be 100% sure but I believe they do allow chicas, I heard someone say 1 girl for 3 hours or less, no chica fee. It looks much nicer if one can judge by the lobby and though the sign says $80/night I think you can bargain them down towards $60.

If you don't mind being further away there are a number of options: Dunn Inn, Hemingway, etc. But personally I like to be in the heart of the action, no chica fees, and pretty much a purely mongering hotel like the Morazan. The girls seem to like it too. It's nowhere near an "American" style "nice" hotel but it's clean enough and comfortable enough.

I tend to agree with you, but many on this board consider the place a shithole - I obviously do not and think it has lots to recommend it

(You should plan to pay in the $50 range per night - every San Jose hotel I've stayed in over the past 15 years has been noisy, w/out exception, b/c between the car alarms, the over revving of the motos, the trucks, etc - its a loud city)

They have loose slots at the Morazon, I am not playing on words, but if you like playing slot machines they are pretty generous there.

Call me old school, I'm still a Del Rey man for 10 years. It always has the largest choice of women, dwarfing the HLH and SL combined, even on their best nights, and I'm spoiled, I like to ride the elevator down at night, pick my puta, and ride the elevator back, no hassles with walking the streets in the dark to the Morazon, taking taxis to other places, and generally placing yourself at risk by being out and about at night.

If you prefer to run around in the daytime and hang around the hotel and monger in the evening, (my M.O.) it has the most massive largest selection, often exceeding 100 to 150 women and is safe, generally the moochers that annoy you hanging around downtown don't issue any threat in the day time and since you always have enough women to choose from you can avoid going out at night, highly recommended for newbies.

If you tell them you want a room on the 3rd floor or higher it's not noisy. Their food is great, albeit a little pricey. The breakfasts are the best in town.

If safety is your main concern, SL could be your choice, it's away from the fray of the downtown area in a quieter, prettier section of town, walking distance to NF, and close enough to HLH and HDR. The only drawback is they often have a very small selection of putas but cuties can be found in that group. The other problem is since the selection is small, you may find yourself forced to go out at night to the other places in your quest for romance.

Food is top notch, more reasonable than HDR. Probably best lunches in town and a more personable, friendly atmosphere. Excellent American management.

Don't let the girl on the phone trick you into one of the center rooms, (and they will try if you are new and don't know better) you will never sleep, request a room in one of those wings. Drawback with this hotel is it's popularity, it fills up fast so you must make reservations well in advance, at least 3 weeks.

I can't recommend any others, the HLH is in a seedier section of town and their puta selection can be lacking, forcing you to go out at night, night time movement dramatically increases your risk and if you are new here and don't know your way around, especially if you are by yourself or with someone who is also new here, going out at night is to be avoided if possible.

To my knowledge, none of the other hotels have putas hanging around and many of them hassle you for bringing girls or outright forbid female visitation.

Awards for the shittiest shit hole in town if not the universe, goes to Hemingway hotel, and awards for the biggest liars (promise to be chica friendly when you call to make reservations and then fight you for bringing chicas to your room) goes to El Presidente, avoid these two at all costs. I'll sleep on a concrete bench in Morazon Park before I stay at either of these again...

To summarize, If you want to get the full effect of massive supplies of putas, raucous wild atmosphere and tops in safety if you stay in at night, the Del Rey is your choice. If you want a classier, more personal, more friendly "boutique" style hotel with elegant rooms (in the back and side wings only !!!) and responsive management, Sportsman's Lodge is your choice. Avoid all others, they are "pretenders" not contenders....

I see a lot of talk here on CRT about walking in the Gulch at night.

IMHO, the fear is out of proportion with the reality.........if you stay sober.

I walk a lot between the popular venues up until about 10 pm or 11 pm........including through Morazon park and past the trannies on the corners. My head is not in the clouds, and I may not survive my next walk, but I have never felt threatened or in danger. Almost always, I am not within 50 feet of another person. I see a lot of cops wandering around after dark. If I don't get mugged by the cops, I think that I'll be alright.

Violent crime is such a rare and random occurrence, that I'll worry about something else..........like whether or not the LEGENDS are on duty for us.

I think it's a matter of playing the odds. But that's hard to figure too. The guy from the Freebird told me his friend got jacked on a downtown sidestreet in the daytime, 3 guys jumped out of car and whooped him bad--fx mug, robbed him, although he did get his licks in. So, go figure the odds of day vs nite.

And, did you see last week's highest crime report by day, time, location? Avenida Central, Friday's 4-6pm, assaults and robberies, males 20-40 most likely victims (new guys, that's the main shopping drag downtown, a pedestrian mall, at that time hundreds and hundreds of people walking both ways). That's why they've built the elevated look-out stands for the police, similar to lifeguard stations, so that they can see the crowd better.

And hopefully not serving as spotters--I saw a guy get nailed during a 30 second or so tussle about 10 years ago a stone's throw away from Ave Centro toward Ave 2 and another stone's throw away from the policia who saw it and they were non plussed, so ever since then I have always wondered.

So playing the common sense odds re: time of walking is difficult. I do think cabbing it is smart for trips from KL-DR or downtown area to HLH, SL, LA etc. and vice versa for $1-2.and obviously alot easier. I don't need the exercise, so an easy decision for me.
