Does Del Rey usually have last minute rooms available? I'm thinking of taking a last minute trip to CR, for my first visit, and wondering how easy it would be to get a room there. Being a newbie to the area, it seems this would be my best option for lodging.

Best to call on phone to make the reservation, or does email work as well?

Email or call. Make sure you mention the $55 room if you want to go for a cheaper room or they will quote you higher.

I recommend staying somewhere else. The Del Rey is a shitty hotel. Great place to pick up girls but not to stay. There are several great options within walking distance of the Rey

I'm thinking first visit go with DR. Have to experience it once in my life. While I'm there, I'll def explore the land and check out the locations of some other hotels. And then pick something diff for my second visit. Really just the ease of finding girl, bringing up to room is what draws me to the DR for first visit.

Be careful, Este' - you did not answer the OP's question - in fact, your post may qualify for the 2nd worst response of the year, and some of the worst advice ever given to a newbi - he does not want other hotels; he wants to know how soon he has to book the HDR in advance - Oh....if you respond to this post, don't try to "spin" your response. Just accept any criticism I give you as your due, and suck it up b/c you are wrong and I'm right

PS Your advise is spot on and 100% correct - maybe could add a few hotels but you are correct in your comments - I formerly was a proponent of everyone experiencing the HDR - once - but for a variety of reasons, no longer feel that way today; for the Op, do it if you fell that strongly about it; hell, many love the place - but just know there are other options that many consider better that don't preclude you from visiting the place

A couple weeks ago I heard their occupancy rate was around 30%. I can tell you on a Saturday night at 11pm, there were 4 people besides the band in the live latin music room, just a few in the two adjacent bars. A few more people in the DJ music room on the way out. Looked pretty dead to me.

If you need to be near the action, try the Morazan. Same quality of room but cheaper in price and no chica fee. It's a short walk.....unless you are old and obese and have trouble walking 50 meters.

Stay at the Del Rey(especially for your first visit). No matter what anyone else says, all roads lead through the Del Rey. You can visit the other places but you will see that almost everyone ventures through the Del Rey. There are no other venues that you can just go dowstairs at 2 am, make a pick and be back in your room within minutes (never stepping outside of the building). Great place for first timers and veterans. Casino, sports bar and 24 hour brothel all in one place.

I agree, I've been coming to the Rey for 10 years now and always get cheap clean rooms, not elegant or classy, but satisfactory with a dependable safe. I've had nothing but excellent prompt service from the employees as well. I've visited the HLH and SL and sure, they have superior rooms, and the Morazon is cheaper with no chica fees but I love being in the middle of the action (youtube "Smack dab in the middle" by Buster Poindexter, that's me...)

The other issue that does it for me is when I'm down here I do a lot of running around in the daytime, so at night all I want to do is just hang around the hotel, monger and ogle the parade, and get one last puta for the night. Call me lazy, but I love having the massive selection, picking a good one and being able to take her right up the elevator, no night walking or cab rides, just pick your ho and go, Meet her, greet her and 10 minutes later you're pounding her...

My problem with the other boutique hotels is their selection is often weak and sometimes even nonexistent, then you have to go gallivanting about at night, not that I haven't done it and as a 10 year veteran, I can deal with it, but I just prefer the lazy man's method on San Jose...

Also, I think the HDR is the best choice for newbies first visit, they can experience the raunchy fray in all it's wild and crazy intensity, then visit the boutiques and decide if they want a quieter, more intimate calmer stay next time...

At the Rey, you are charged $12.00 for the pleasure of taking a girl up to your room, and the loser taking the money is asking you to give him a tip.

True, if you are on a limited budget or -ahem- 'frugal", and don't mind the hassle of traveling a block with your ho at night to get back to your room and being hassled by beggars, the Morazon is the place to be. Whenever I stay here, my M.O. typically is to bag one in the daytime at an MP and take one from the cavalcade of the Rey at night. I payed $55 for the room and the $12 plus $1 tip for a total of $68.

I met a guy last time I stayed here who was staying at the Morazon, he was paying $60. So for the tidy sum of $8 extra per night, I avoided constant walkings between my room and the Rey in the evenings and enjoyed the fun of being right there in the belly of the beast and only going outside when I choose to. I tend to unabashedly blow a little money when on vacation, even paying cien for some top stunners who issue guarantees on my peccadillo requests...

Then I go back home and unashamedly and unapologetically live the life of -frugality-, these damn new pennies now made out of zinc instead of copper tend to bend or even break when you pinch them too hard...

By the way, I usually have no problem booking a week in advance at HDR, normally no problem except for Halloween. If you have to postpone or cancel, they let you off the hook if you give them over 24 hour notice.

I once tried to book a room at SL 2 weeks in advance and they were all booked up in the good rooms, I insisted not to book me into any of the rooms off the bar, the girl on the phone tried to trick me into the rooms surrounding the bar which are extremely loud, only when I demanded her name and insisted on knowing where the rooms she selected were located did she fess up. I told her to forget it and booked a room at the Rey like I always do...

Unless things have changed since late January (and they haven't ), you should pay about $50/night at the Morazon including breakfast and safe - $60 is "rack rate"

This guy was paying $60, what's rack rate ? I also heard they charge $30 for someone who just needs an hour or two.
