I forget the new name (think it's Mona Lisa) but one of the owners tells me they expect to open the Hotel,Casino and restaurant by the middle of February. However some knowledgably people tell me that it will be a lot later. They will be encouraging chicas to visit in or out of the rooms. I'm sure we will have lots of reviews once they open.

The new owner says soft opening. What is a soft opening? Sounds to me like this opening needs some Viagra.

A "soft opening" is a term used in the hospitality industry (restaurants, hotels, etc.) when there is no general announcement, advertising, etc. informing the general public of the opening.

It is normally used to prevent the new untested staff from being overwhelmed with the amount of customers and rendering a less then satisfactory guest experience. Customers who are less then satisfied tend not only to not return but to also share their dissatisfaction with their friends and acquaintances who also will not patronize the establishment. Hopefully a soft opening allows the staff to ease into their roles and provide the guests with a experience that makes them want to return and also spread the positive word about the new establishment.

I took a tour of this place when it was Hotel Amon Plaza (or was it Plaza Amon?). This was perhaps 8 years ago, and I haven't been back since. I liked the rooms, and don't remember seeing any "bad" rooms. Most of the nearby boutique hotels seem to have this quirk... a few rooms that are either too hot, too cold, too small, too smelly or too noisy. Looking forward to reading the first couple of reviews of this place. The price range is definitely competitive.

I stayed there one time and had a Jr. Suite for $65 by booking thru Nixon. I liked the hotel very much though thought the resturant was not good but a nice atmosphere. With good management this hotel could be very nice. Rooms are large with a window with a view. Televisions are the old type but work well. At $50 a night for a nice large room, this a great value. It has a nice circular, covered driveway as the entrance. The only ice machine that worked was in the kitchen. My safe didn't work and it was the next day before they replaced it.
