I am normally picked up at the airport by a business acquaintance but he was out of town so I thought I would give Sid a go after reading a post where someone apparently tried to screw him. I believe in Karma so I contacted Sid the night before I was leaving last week. He asked me for the info some are complaining about. I sent him what I could but was already on the road. He took a chance and I am glad. When I landed and turned on my CR phone a text was waiting for me letting me know he was close and to let him know when I cleared immigration. Immigration and even Customs was slow this trip and I let him know. When I got to the xray in Customs I let him know I would be right out. I walked out the door and he was driving up in the vehicle he described. I jumped in and we were off. He had a cold beverage for me and we had a good conversation on the way. Quick trip and he knows the roads. I paid him $30.00 for the trip as I believe you get what you pay for.
Made arrangements for the trip back for a friend and I.

During the trip my friend decided he needed to leave a day early so I called Sid the night before my friend decided to leave. No issues he was there early to pick him up.

When I was ready to leave Sid walked in early while I was having breakfast and told me to let him know when I was ready. We left a little later with a stop to drop off a friend in San Antonio. I payed Sid $40.00 for the trip to the airport and side trip.

This was my experience with Sid. You can pay him what you want but there is no reason to try to get something for nothing. If you want cheap get a shuttle and wait around while you could be doing something else or pay the extra and get the service.

My 2 cents.

Disagree. You paid him the going rate to get to the gulch & more to get back to the airport. Why not just grab an airport taxi, which is $30, & I always pay $30 from LA to the airport. I see no advantage in using him whatsoever. In fact, he "lost" emails I had sent to confirm so I had to re-send them just to make sure I got picked up. Way too much effort imo when you can just walk up to the counter at the airport & pay $30 to get to the hotel.

Thanks brother Hugo for the kind words. There are all kind of ways to get to and from everywhere here in Costa Rica. I even tell the guys about the buses and less expensive ways of traveling Costa Rica, in order to save them money. I really like doing this because I get to meet great guys and get out of the house for a while. Like I have said before to a lot of you guys, I wish I could pay you for letting me be of service to you.
Your tips help me do other charity work here in Costa Rica. I don't publicize it because I know the problems it can create. I have a select list of elderly and poor that I give absolutely FREE rides (no tips accepted) to. I also feed the homeless in Barrio Mexico at Christmas, providing them something more than rice and beans. My 2 step sons 12 and 10 help me ,because I want to teach them the value of giving back. Anyone who would like to help feed the homeless on Dec 21st or have someone that needs a Free ride, p.m. me. Thanks again.

El Ornitorrinco is correct about misplacing an email, for that I do apologize. I did meet him outside the terminal as promised, took him to his hotel, had a great conversation, with no road problems. He offered a tip and was accepted. Very nice gentleman as well.

I dunno, Sid.....I hear you about getting out of the house, meeting new people, etc.

But reading your posts as well as some other responses, the phrase "You can't be a little pregnant" comes to mind -

I wish you luck, but you either have a business or a hobby - I don't know you (do hope to meet you one day :) ) and wish you the best personally and business wise but if you are in business - even in Costa Rica - you can't "miss" guys (if it was anyone else, than Califorication, I'd call BS), or e mails, although your attitude is refreshing in its lack of excuses - just sayin'

Good question.
I would probably pay him what it would cost from a taxista and figure the beers would be a bonus for me, if in fact he is there when I get in. Would save me a walk upstairs to snag a cab. As for using the Interbus shuttle, I am over having to wait for them at the airport. Time is of the essence that first night in San Jose. Also one time I swear the van was running on one cylinder. It was pitiful. At one point I was readly to get out and walk with my bags, which probably would have been faster.

I too had the pleasure of having Sid pick me up and drop me off at the airport. He is a very friendly and helpful person and I will certainly contact him again when I visit CR.

Gents, I recently used Bro Sid services for airport pickup/drop off.
100% recommend Sid. He was on time, promptly answered my emails.
Great to chat with. He went out of his way on Dec 25 for a 8am pickup
Can't beat that

Sid really knows this country, I worked here for over a year 22 years ago and told him the old places I wanted to go to and he knew where to go . Finished a trip to Cartago and the volcano with him today he knew the best places to go. Also here's a plug for J R Calzado a boot maker just off Paseo Colon 2258-6342 did a great job on some handmade python boots for me. Sid can take you there.

Been trying to get hold of One Lucky Dogg - tried the email address in the classified ad (info@OneLuckyDogg.com) and a PM on this forum, no response to either.

Anyone have any other contact info or know if Sid is still around?

Hello All,

I have contacted Sid and he has been very helpful thus far - I have him scheduled to pick me up from the airport on Feb 9th; I am guessing it will about 10:30 - 11:00 before passing through immagration.

I told him that I would text him after I arrived assuming I could get a SIM card that late (9:30pm arrival) from the kolbi booth before going down the escalator to immagration. Sid stated to not worry about that as he had pre-filled SIM cards. He asked what my preferred cold drink was as well.

What Sid offers is a catered personalized service - he also holds himself accountable for his mistakes without excuses - and he does this while letting us decide what we want to tip....

I think his service speaks for itself....I am looking forward to meeting Sid. I will definitely report about my experience once I return from CR.

had the dogg pick me up yesterday for my return from the LA to the airport. He showed up early, had an ice-cold beer waiting for me, & had even checked to see if my departing flight was on time. A hell of a good deal!!
