I just cancelled DR though I plan to drop by. I'm hearing good things about DI and SL which is better? Consider location, rooms, Chica friendliness, other factors like AC! I definitely want to gamble In between forays w chicas. Sports book and poker room a plus. Help a first time CR monger |

Neither hotel has onsite gambling, however SL does have sportsbook on gamedays, run by a third party. Both are chica friendly, no fees. Rooms have a/c at SL, don't know about DI. DI is more convenient to HLH but there's no chicas onsite. SL has chicas onsite. mh |

I just booked 2 nights at the DI, 2nd stay. stay upstairs and get a room across from the stairs, fairly quiet. service is dynamite, stayed a few other places, nothing wrong with them, DI just feels nice to stay there |

Thanks for the immediate, quick replies. There are only standard rooms at the SL so I booked a jr suite at the DI. just talked to them. They seem friendly and efficient (we'll see). They're offering a $25 pick up at SJO. worth it? |

If you like take out from the DR you may want to try the Freebird as it is only a safe 3 minute walk to the DR. I stay there every trip and it close to the mps such as Relax. |

Still, its not a rip off per se, and if I were new, making my first rip, I might grab it - although there are lots of less costly options - do this however.......go across to the ticket lobby, change money at the airport bank (not at the Cambios; they are rip offs) and buy your exit visa - just go across the street into the airport (departures) go through the door and head right. |

it's about average for the trip. It's neither a ripoff nor a deal see the newbie FAQ by Orange for info on how/where to change your money. You actually have to exit the terminal after coming out of the baggage check, clear all the people with the signs picking up arrivals, walk across the street to the parking garage on the other site. You'll be outside in the sunshine and at the ground level of a 3 (?) story parking building. After you cross the street look to your L and spot the elevator for the parking garage. Take it to the top floor (departures), get off and head back into the terminal and once inside turn R and go all the way to the end, you'll see the bank for exchanging as described in the newbie guide. The counters on the R are where you'll pay your departure tax at, so both the bank for changing money and the departure tax counters are right next to each other. I used Sid/one lucky dog since I wanted to chat with someone about the area, get out of the public transportation mode, and get a tour of the gulch before I settled into my room. I'm using him again for the trip back to the airport next Monday |

Thanks about the exchange at SJO, I plan to do that. Flight arrives at 8 pm Will they be open? Also, what's a safe distance to walk at night? |

I walked between the Dunn and the DR many times, Castillo to the end of Central Market, only took a cab 2x maybe total during the week+ I was in town. Others would wince at this, I felt comfy given my experiences. Latest I walked was 1:30a. Cabs are cheap enough any everywhere, if you have any sort of concern you should take one. be sure they use 'la maria' (the meter) check out Oranges newbie guide, most all of the stuff you are after is in there |

I believe so but check - their hours could have changed - also check hours for the exit visa place right next to the bank - buy that before you leave the airport if you can |
