Booked Sportsmen... a little iffy on providing credit card information via email, but other than that, the responses to my emails were very quick. They seem professional that I feel this will be start of a good experience. I will keep this thread updated as to my experience checking in/out and the stay!

I think this coming trip will be my 6th trip, and although at first I shared your worries, so far haven't had any issues after providing card info to SL. Cannot say the same about Del Rey, had made reservation there for my first trip but had to cancel due to the sate department taking six months to issue my passport, but that's another story. Was charged $150.00 by DR, that they claimed they didn't charge. My bank took care of it, but it took about three months. Guess that could be part of the reason I stay at SL, one less thing to worry about , and service has been excellent.

I've stayed at the Sportsmens for many years (from the first year it opened) and never had a problem with my credit card. And you picked a great place to stay for your first trip. You'll have a blast. Be sure to join the VIP here to get the discount on the room and food and beverage. It will pay for itself.

The credit card number in an email is not likely an issue when it gets to The Sportsmen's (great place!), but that a copy of that plain text file could be sitting at each point (server) the email bounces to in order to get to the Sportsmen's.

That would be my fear. I recommend calling them.

For $100 they could make a secure online form to submit that information.

If the issuing bank or the credit card companies ever found out that they are requesting credit cards via email, say 'bye bye' to their merchant account (and any hopes of getting another one). Forget not being PCI compliant, this is just absurd.

Thank you for the heads up, and I did sign up for the VIP membership... and it definitely was worth it!

I totally agree with you... but in all a good experience. Truth is... I could have just as easily called it in. This response comes after returning from the trip, and I'm sure they would have accommodated me.
