Any recommendations for Manuel Antonio Hotels?

i am sure there are other threads here if you do a search. but the karahe is my favorite. should be about 80 a night right now in off season. has a pool thats very private at night. especially late. and you can walk out to the beach if you get a bungalow on the beach side. some of the other rooms you need to cross that main road in and you need to pay attention big time.
rooms are nothing special but have ac and tvs now. didnt used to. most of the other hotels in that area require walking quite a ways to the beach or taking a cab there.
http://karahe.com/

have also stayed at hotel villa prats. didnt find a website but there was a youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44ysnr807WY
i think that most of the guests tend to be gay but im not really sure. it is about an eight minute walk from the beach on the cul de sac end of manuel antonio. people there are really nice. the let us make pizza w the chef one night. also is at the opening to the rain forest.
have paid as little as 50 night cash here.

Byblos is good--pool, good food, good bar to watch games in--to far to walk to the beach though

If I'm traveling solo, I usually stay in Quepos. Its a short and cheap bus ride to the beach and in town you have a bit more night life options. Last time I stayed at hotel Sarina. Comfortable room, reasonably priced, pool and breakfast.

Just south of Ladiablo's recommendation of Karahe is Hotel Verde Mar, has little kitchens, nice pool, walk out to the beach like Karahe, very, very few have that feature, and these two are the only ones I'd rec'd. Lots of hotels in MA, but all depends if you want to be right on the beach or not. nicer hotels up the hill, but it's a bus or cab ride to the beach. Has a website. Ramon is the manager, good guy. Both are good, maybe an edge to Verde Mar because of the little kitchen's and the rooms are a little bigger. Karahe maybe nicer, the new rooms that is, modern but they are really small.

It can be expensive but Arenas del Mar is really nice. I think it's buildings 1-3 that are right on the beach. The other buildings are up higher but they have golf carts that will drive you. Their property is huge and largely undeveloped so you call for a golf cart to take you almost anywhere.

Issimo Suites is a much smaller hotel with nice rooms and no K*ds allowed but far from the beach. You can usually get much better rates than what they advertise by calling.

Not cost effective for one person but with a family or group of guys, Los Altos condos is a great place with on-site restaurant, beach access, pool etc... http://www.losaltoscr.com/

I have stayed at Costa Verde in M.A. a couple of times, nice place, not right on the beach though. They have good dining options with a restaurant across the street with a big grill. Even if you don't stay at Costa Verde I recommend visiting their bar at around 5 p.m. Every evening a bunch of those little monkeys come into the bar which is open air. Pretty entertaining.

Ditto Costa Verde, decent bang for your buck. Went in green season and it was like $87 a night plus tax. had a room up from the beach at tree level looking out over the water...breath taking sunsets. has several pools and resturants plus a adult only swimming pool w/ a bar. Also ditto the grill across the street (wood fire cooking) I ordered the tuna that comes with some kind of sauce on top and it was AMAZING! piece of tuna was huge and was cooked to perfection (medium rare) believe it was only 5500 colones. meal would have been 20-30 bucks back in the states. had it two nights in a row it was so good

That Lasarina one is loud. It is a small place and the rooms are right next to the pool and 30 feet from the bar/ktichen. If you can handle that, good value but is is downtown Quepos and about 5 miles or so, I forget exactly, from the beach. I f you hve a car no problem, or if you don't mind the bus that runs regularly and make alot of stops.

Good point DGD...the bus that runs from Quepos to Manuel Antonio is very easy and usually filled with tourists more so than locals (except when they are going to work/getting off at the hotels/resorts). I recommend it to anyone staying at any of the hotels as easy transportation to/from the park as well as getting from one good bar/restaurant to another along that road. Very inexpensive compared to a taxi and usually is pretty quick.

Here is a good map of MA http://www.cupotico.com/maps/Manuel%20A ... 0maps.html

My personal favorite is Hotel Costa Verde. Very nice accomodations and close enough to walk to the beach. Kind of a steep hike back though. The bus runs up and down all day and costs like 250 colones. I've stayed at Verde Mar, which I didnt like that much. The location is great but not really up to the standards that I prefer. Byblos is very nice but too expensive IMO.
