I am skd to fly to CR on Sunday. Read about the quake (7.6), big one. Hope all are ok. Tried to call the Sportsmen's lodge but their phones were not functioning well, so I sent them an email (hopefully that will get thru). Was wondering if anyone can provide an update on the SL, is it ok and still functioning, no damage that sort of thing. Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

All the phone lines in are jammed due to overuse. The SL is fine.

The SL is used to 'shaking' everyday.

I live north of San Jose (San Ramon) so much closer to the epicenter and it did very little damage here. Matter of fact, only thing I saw was a small landslide just outside town with a few rocks on the highway. I don't even think it shook quite as hard as the 6.3 we had 3 1/2 years ago but it definitely shook!

Was at the airport today (Wednesday) and spoke with two police officers who said there was hardly any damage at all in San Jose. Power went out for a little while but came back on pretty quickly. The airport and San Jose are open for business as normal with no bad effects from such a powerful earthquake. The fact it was 25 miles deep helped obviously.

However, if you are headed to Guanacaste for example Liberia or Tamarindo, you might do well to check with your hotel to make sure they had light damage as well. Have heard some examples of damage in that area, very close to the epicenter.
