Hey guys! First I wanna say this forum has a ton of useful information, and I'm going to continue to peruse it in the coming days. That being said my first visit is somewhat unique, and it's got some flexibility and I wanted a seasoned CR Veteran to kinda help push me in the right direction. I'm going to Costa Rica mainly for the Ticas and the partying. However, there's two days (A Sat and Sun. It's for a Magic The Gathering Tournament, so if I randomly stumble on to a seasoned Vet that plays magic all the better!) that I need to be at the Costa Rica Tennis Club. This is the address I have, but it doesn't make much sense to me... Sabana Sur, east side of the Comptroller General of the Republic, PO. 4964-1000 San Jose, Costa Rica. Anyways - I'm weighing my options between some kinda Villa or a Hotel that's close to the event center. The main Criteria is safety, but just as major a concern is a policy that allows the overnight visitors I intend to have. Since the addresses don't make much sense to me, I'm having trouble figuring out which hotels are close and which aren't. I expect a Veteran would be able to tell me quickly. There's a group of about 4-8 of us depending on who goes and who doesn't, so smaller and larger villas are both considerations. Money is a concern, but we don't need to stay at any sort of Hostel. Just something reasonable. If the choice is a hotel room, no more than 2 people will be in a room, and if its a Villa no one intends to share a bed. Like I said I'm going to be perusing myself to see what I can find, but a quick recombination from a Vet would be amazing! Thanks in advance! EDIT - It also may make sense to not stay anywhere near the event if that area of town is bad. We're going to be there for a week and two days will be spent there, so a cab to the event center won't be a huge deal at all if it turns out there's better areas. |

The Tennis Club is located on the south side of la Sabana Park. The area is safe to walk around almost all the time. I just suggest you do not do so after 9 or 10pm. I live directly behind the Tennis Club so I am pretty familiar with the area. As for reasonably priced hotels around here I am not too sure about. There is an Aparthotel less than five minutes walk to the TC. Anywhere downtown will get you there in no more than 15 minutes by cab depending on traffic. Probably less time actually. Since you are in town for the partying I suggest you stay closer to downtown and just commute back and forth to the TC because you will be going during the weekend and traffic is not bad at all. I don't know how successful you are gonna be finding a villa, but hotels are plentiful. the DR <----------OG'n it all day long....... ![]() |

I don't know where the tennis club is exactly but a taxi ride from the gulch to Sabana Sur is only going to run you about 6 to 8 dollars from the Barrio Amon area. Stay down there. You'll have a much more enjoyable trip. |

It can be a bit confusing because it's in the Site's title but...Costa Rican women are Ticas; all the women we associate with are Chicas, wherever they come from. Confusing the 2 words can get awkward. About lodging: agree with the above. Two venues that might not get you "outed" as a Monger are the Hotel Santo Tomas (maybe--check with them on Chica fees and policies) and the Hotel Hemingway. Both offer discounts to paid VIPs here (check the VIP Discount Thread for details, current promotions, etc) and the Hemingway is not generally known as a Monger hotel, at least not yet (mostly backpackers). Speaking of which, there's a straight-up backpacker/Euro hostel close to the action--from the pix, they have good parties around the rooftop pool--might be worth checking out with the younger guys in your group--Hostel Pangea. http://www.hotelsantotomas.com/ http://www.hemingwayinn.com/ http://hostelpangea.com/ |

The Crown Plaza a/k/a Coribicci Hotel is close to Sabana Sur. If there are three of of you, I know a gringo that owns (and rents) the penthouse on top of the Crown Plaza/Coribicci. If you have more they can get rooms in the hotel and party in the penthouse. I have no clue how much he gets, but if interested, send me a PM and I'll give you his tele number in the US. I've seen it and it's rather spectacular, with a hot tub and dance floor, etc. I don't know if there is any chica action in the bars of the Crown Plaza, but I hear it's a nice place to pick up quality chicas and the restaurants are fine. Otherwise staying at a hotel in the Gulch such as Sportsmens, la Armistad, Dunn Inn, the Hotel Little Havava or Del Rey are relatively close by taxi ($10 ride) while being very close to the chica action. |
