How about some experiences with Internet Service at the Barrio Amon Hotels. I have stayed at Amistad, Dunn Inn and HLH and the Internet service was never that good at all of them, especially for working purposes. Any reviews you all would like to share with CRT?

Zubake3: The few speedtests I've conducted (other than at Amistad) show the SL to have the "fatest pipe".....that is....the "strongest" connection. I was seeing, as I recall, in excess of 7megs down (if not more) in the bar area

Travel with an antenna and you'll be surprised at just what they can do. Too, once Wireless N is the standard in CR as it is in the USA (although most home networks still are using routers with B and G [and the brand new U-Verse router ATT just gave me doesn't have N on it), the better the connection shall be wireless wise.

Steven1-What kind of antenna do you need and where do you buy it. Is it easy to hook up. I am totally tech-challenged and an old man!

Is the antenna for the computer to boost sensitivity to a weak signal......or is it for a router to boost the signal strength?????

Or do they sell both types of antennae.

Both are sold. One is to assist the wi-fi router in "throwing out" more signal further. Next to impossible to access most times (the router that is....hotels and joints don't want you mucking about their stuff.). The other is the one YOU carry for your usage. Here we run into a challenge. Wireless "N" is the new industry standard and is with most all NEW laptops. However, most are set up with older Wireless B and G (some A). So many options....but finding one with Wireless "N" is important in my view....most all of those will be backwards compatable to B&G which I am betting is the standard in "our" hotels.

Here is an example off of ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/120960165831?ss ... 1438.l2649

It looks like a toy, I know....but trust me....it works AND this one is set up for "N". It plugs into a USB port on your laptop. Use of a yagi antenna is even better but connecting the yagi to your laptop is more complex than I think most want to fiddle with. (Inside that can is the guts of the antenna which is a USB "dongle") the can is used for "easy build" as there is wire cut to just the correct length which functions as the antenna (laws of physics and all that).

I have several antennas I rely very heavily on; cantenna is for starters. http://www.illumi-nations.com/brass-mod ... na-80211-n is a great antenna for several reasons. Primary reason: It breaks down into three sections for ease of transportability. Too, it also simply plugs into a USB port. Scroll around that guy's web site. He has some flat panel antennas that work just fine also.
