Post subject:  best way to get to Jaco from SJ

I am staying in San Jose in November.
Want to spend a few days in Jaco; I will not have a car.

What is the best way to get there and back?
How much would it cost to hire a driver to take me?

Thanks

Dirt cheap, public bus, get the non stop. Not for me.

Shuttle, 12 seater's or something, a/c, acceptable, not really cheap.

With class and reasonable, puravidatransport.com, Steve, member of this board, I think his handle is puravidatransport. Show you alot of things, make a pit stop for eats or whatever, and teach you some things you might not know re: CR, SJ, Jaco on the way.

I normally use a rental car. But, if you don't want to drive in CR, Interbus is a great affordable option. You can book here and enjoy a discounted rate: http://www.shuttlebus.co.cr/website/sho ... /index.php .

The last time I used a private van and driver was in 2005. I paid $70 for the van and driver (all day) who drove us to/from and around Jaco. The driver also provided drinks and snack as part of the deal. The ride to Jaco was quite comfortable, and we made several touristic stops along the way. Not sure if the guy is still in business, but here is his contact info: Victor Solis: 2-228-3159 or 8-390-5304 . If you try to contact him, let me know if he is still in business. I am curious.

Haven't taken the bus from the CocaCola station for 3/4 years, but it was 3 0r 4 dollars
takes a little longer, altho there are express buses that don't make as many stops
At the end of May, I paid cien to get picked up at the Sportsman and dropped off at the Tangeri
The bus is an adventure you should take at least once

Best way is in the back of a van with two chicas giving you oral sex and putting on a show for you during the trip. Otherwise depends on what you want to spend. Private transportation runs about $100 plus. Bus is $5 to $10. Blowjob on the bus is probably out of the question, but a good thought anyway. Gas and tolls cost the driver $40 or more with a compact car. 100 miles each way. Good business idea would be to get a van and put a bed in back, provide licquor, snacks, girls, porno movies, toys. Illegal, but what a way to spend the hour and a half enroute to Jaco for vacationers wanting to get the most entertainment in their limited time. Pay two good girls $100 each for their time. Charge $350 for two guys, clear $100 a trip, with everybody happy. Or let the customer bring girls, and charge $150 for delux accomodations.

I'm 6'2" and used to avoid the bus like the plague. Now I just make sure and buy ticket ahead of time and get an aisle seat. I love when I can find a ride and at times take Interbus or Grayline one way, but then think $4! Suck it up for a couple of hours and you haven't spent any money. Now I'm not on vacation either. I tend to loosen up on the money thing much more when it is vacation. I don't know if people know this but Interbus is definitely not a time saver even though it is a bit more comfortable than the public bus. I took Interbus to Jaco about 6 months ago and was picked up at Don Carlos I believe. Door to door to my hotel was four hours. I try to network here to share rides but never seem to find anyone going at the same time.

In June, I took public transportation and private transportation from SJO to Jaco.

The bus from the Coca Cola station cost me 4 bucks each way or 2,000 colones. They assigned seats according to "when" you bought your ticket. Once I got lucky over and back and had the last row, window seat with the stairs and a rail in front of me that I put my feet up on and slightly reclined my chair. Awsome ride over and back. The next time, I requested that seat and they said they sold the seats as people arrived in order. I had an aisle seat and my chica had the window, it wasn't bad but not as comfortable as a private van. I heard about the "express bus" with fewer stops but never seemed to be able to get on it.

I have also used private transport for years, 12 years ago it was about 20 bucks a guy with 3 or more guys and it hasnt changed a whole lot. In June, my transport was 120.00 each way per van (I had 2 Vans) from San Jose to Jaco, 5 guys in 1 van and 4 in the other and on the way back we had 7 in 1 Van for the same price. My driver who I've used for over 11 years will stop, pick up cervezas, food, a look in Tarcoles at the Crocs etc. We generally include a 20.00 or more tip on top. It's a nicer way to travel but def a little more costly and as 3rdworld says, $4.00!!!!! is pretty hard to beat for a 2 hour ride vs an hour an a half.

Check around SL or post here on the board and you might find someone wanting to ride over and share the cost and go private. If i'm solo, I go public bus, if i'm with wingmen, I go private and share the cost.

Suerte,

Jac

Russ, the guy that shoots pool and sells V,C, & L (generic) almost daily at the historic Sportsman's Lodge, also rents an SUV cheap. You can drive there. Many hotels in Jaco have free parking. Driving away from the city is easy. Driving in the city is a different story.

Bus is cheap but crowded and a bit slow. You should be able to hire a driver either from a local company or grab a cab from wherever you're staying. Trip to Jaco one way should not cost more than $100 via driver or Taxi and should be in the $75 range if you are travelling alone (We pay $100 for 4 people).

Another tip is to try to get the seat kiddy corner from the driver - aisle- you will get a great picture window view all the way.

I ride the buses all over CR. The trip to Jaco is very easy. Buy your assigned ticket one or two days ahead. Save the $ for cervezas y senioritas.

This is a great tread, I posted the same thing a few weeks ago, but this is the best so far. Looks like I am going to walk out of the airport and look for the bus stop to town, and just keep asking every one witch way to the Coka Cola station. I arive at 11.30 am and there is a 1 o clock bus. Should be plenty of time. Just hope I get a seat, wish me luck.

If you are not in a hurry, I.d take the Jaco bus at Coca Cola. Way cheap about $5 one way.
