Was browsing kayak this a.m. & found the following for the ridiculously low price of $549:

YYZ 10:45a→MGA 3:55p
MGA 8:35a→SJO 9:30a
SJO 12:20p→YYZ 9:50p

This gives me a few days in Nica-land, then a couple in SJ. Only hitch is, on the first leg, it's only a 35 min. stop in SAL. I've connected there before when flying LACSA, but was a long time ago. Anyone know if that's enough time so that my checked bag won't get lost?

That's cutting it close. I connect thru there 5-6 x a year from Taca to Lacsa with usually an hour give or take with no problems. You would think they would know what they are dealing with so I'd say you'll be OK. If not it will be on the next flight? so make sure you tell the desk people for your airline at the luggage carousel in SJ where you will be and how to contact you for delivery. Also, you have compensation rights on delayed (and lost of course) baggage but I'll let you google that. But, make a claim right then, they'll give you a $100 pronto for incidentals. I will tell you its governed by the Warsaw Convention as modified by the Montreal Convention because its an Int'l flight so your capped at $1500, but Convention lingo must be printed on the ticket. If you get an e-ticket it usually isn't. I love TACA, soon to be known only as Avianca, but they jagged me around and lost a bag, and then found it 4 days later, and delivered it to me in the US 10 days later, pilfered and all taped up which I photo'd as their guy was taking it out of his van. Had to sue them because they were stuck on stupid on the Convention caps. No Convention lingo on my e-ticket so no caps. To cut to the chase, I got 4 r/t Biz class tickets.

Thanks DGD...I know 35 minutes is cutting it close, but SAL struck me as quite a tiny airport, so I was hoping it wouldn't be an issue. That fare is unbelievable, it usually costs more than that to just go to SJO.

I think it is TACA/Avianca's hub so it can get busy. I take it you are not flying with them so good luck They are the best when it comes to waiting. There was a huge t-storm, 45 min delay in SJ to ElSal about 6 mos ago. I thought for sure I was going to spend the night in ElSal. Nope, the plane was waiting and the girl at the gate counter said they knew there were 20 of us so they waited. I don't know if United would have done that. In January, they pulled away from the gate 15 minutes early and wouldn't let me board even though my luggage was already on. The security line at ORD was nuts that day. They essentially told me at the gate your fault. I sued them too. They have since offered me a free coach r/t anywhere USA. Nope. And I sued them in a very rural county where my week-end place is. They tried getting it removed to Cook County. Nope, bought the ticket at my country place so the judge ruled venue was there. Still pending. Their lawyer will get tired of making that trek for status dates every two months.

The good news is that I searched it again, but going to CR first & it's even cheaper, $489, with a 45 minute stop in SAL on the way to SJO. That's too good to pass up.

$489, that is cheap. What date is that for and are the taxes & fees included.

I booked a flight from yyz via sal to sjo depart July 21 for $588(taxes & fees included).

cheers,
Attila

That price is all in on LACSA, but is in September, which I understand is rainy season in Nicaragua.
