The courtyard rooms were great when SL first opened up and only had 12 units. If you are looking for a balance between reasonably-priced rooms and comfort at SL, I would consider one of the three rooms in the "annex" with the private bath.

Mario, Diablo, and BlueDevil,

Thanks for the advice. I've gone ahead and booked a deluxe upstairs... with the 20% off deal thats going right now its about 70 bucks a night which is fine. I just pictured trying to bone a girl during a frat party with people knocking on the door asking where is the bathroom. lol. I'm sure its not that bad, but I didn't want to wait until the last minute and regret it. It may be a waste but on my first trip I'm prioritizing having a great time slightly higher than saving money. Its funny I already feel like this might be the first of many.

Its also funny I spent a month in CR in 2006, traveling around going to volcanoes and rainforest and beaches... but I feel like this is my first trip... to some other new country called.. Exotic Fuckfest Partyland.

I think the best standard room is "Fiesta". Not silent--but much quieter than the courtyard. If you want even quieter you have to shell out more $$. Just my 2 cents.

Thought I would weigh in , having just stayed there for 10 nights.

Reception Staff: All very charming : Andrea , Yancy , Paola, Susan ( apologies for misspellings ) There was not a thing these girls would not do to attend to any issue I had. Nothing annoyed them and they ALL helped create an ambience I have come to enjoy at SL. Process to check-in and check-out is smooth as silk. Friendly and sweet , not something you find everywhere in the hospitality trades. 5 stars out of 5 stars.

Rooms: I know that , personally, in the future, I will choose a room out of the Mansion Wing , i.e. the Mono Room , as opposed to other areas that are a bit noisier but much cheaper. As far as those that complain, I mean what do you expect : you're not staying at a Holiday Inn Express and there is alot of upside and convenience to the SL atmosphere that offsets any downside in noise you experience in the Clubhouse rooms. You should know that going into the deal , so set your expectations correctly. If rooms adjoin a bar , there will be noise , but there are SL options to avoid that. Spend a little more for enhanced privacy and soundproofing. It might be well worth it , if you're a light sleeper or unable to adapt. And , there's no doubt that SL staff will take care of maintenance issues and the like and they are supportive in all housekeeping requests. 4.8 of 5 stars ( but I have not stayed in Mansion Wing , so that may raise my score )

Food and Beverage: The menu, contrary to some of the posts here, contains some healthy options , if you seek that out. There is salad and rice with many of the entrees, not just fries and other potato options. I would not say it is a 100% artery-clogging experience eating at SL , if you look a little harder. There are grilled veggies ,as well, and , in particular, with the Chicken Cordon Bleu, which I personally liked very much and so did anybody else I dined with who chose it. Compare that to the Amistad , where it was more expensive ( tried it once up there ) and not nearly as good. Plus they gave me fries instead of mashed , as the menu stated , and just said "oh , sorry ". I know the SL would fix an issue like that, because that is how they run the business. They like to know people are happy and will come back. They do take pride in customer service , I observed ( This was my 3rd stay with the SL , btw ) Costs are fairly reasonable , given the current economy of the area in general now. San Jose CR is just not as cheap as it used to be, period. 4.8 of 5 stars

Bar Staff: Kimberly , the lead Bartender/Manager has put together a great staff of girls and it wouldn't do justice for me not to mention they are all hot , some downright beautiful. It's nice to sit at a bar and have some nice scenery in your line of vision. Este es buena vista , for certain. And , even when busy, I could get the service I needed and usually with a smile. Try getting that down at the Blue Marlin. 4.99999 of 5 stars.

Hotel Patrons: 95% friendly guests staying there and I probably made 2 dozen friends or so during my stay. No aggressive attitudes , just mainly American Gringo types down there for a good time and were easy to talk to. I hope to see some of these guys again and have alot of email addresses , etc. A more personable situation than , say , at the HDR or Morazon, although I'm not knocking them , its just the SL suits me just fine. 4.85 out of 5 stars.

Working girls: Did not have a single problem. Nothing missing from the room, all were friendly and nice and there was limited personal drama. They mostly kept things light and breezy , provided their services and showed respect to the patrons, for the most part. As mentioned elsewhere , they are screened prior to entry , so that added a level of security and comfort. I try to remember they are trying to make a living and provide a service and many are supporting hijos and etc. Respect is always a 2 way street.
4.75 out 5 stars

By the way, there was a Hawaiian - Themed Birthday Party for Gabriela in the Bar , where Mariachi Dancers were brought in, during my stay. This was way cool , the music was fantastic and costumes were beautiful, as well as the girls wearing them. A good time was had by all , quite a blast.

SL checks off all the boxes for me, no place is perfect , but I have enjoyed my vacations at this place and feel Mgmt should be given credit where credit is due. Thanks Bill and Dan. Kudos.

Add my 2 bits. I like to stop into the SL because it is reliable. OK food and drink prices; though you could do better if you know the city, nice chicas, sometimes 10s but usually a good selection of 6-7s. It is a "clean, well lit place" in the afternoon, in the words of Ernest Hemingway. Usually there are not obnoxious people. I have not roomed there only because I usually travel on short notice. Bill does a good job of making everyone happy. It does not have the "wow, I'm in p*ssy heaven" that the HDR has, but you almost always will find something that you will enjoy there.

SL is good for games and sporting events. Well run bar with reliable service. Can't speak to the hotel as I've never stayed there. The food is hit or miss, but its bar food and passable.

I realize this place is beloved by most, but here's an honest assessment from my recent stay at the legendary Sportsmens Lodge. Flamers, drop a Viagra and light up, here goes...

Strengths:

1.   Great selection of girls. But really not much different than anywhere else
2.  Beautiful and competent bartenders
3.  Abundance of fellow mongers with which to connect

Weaknesses:

1.   The rooms. Or at least the cheap rooms. This doesn't exactly qualify as news or a surprise, but DO NOT underestimate the noise if you stay in the courtyard.   You can almost reach out from the doorway of these rooms to collect your drink at the bar now that they've remodeled what once was the lounge.   Some might see this as a plus but there is a sense your bedroom is almost public in these rooms

2.   The rooms.  The shower drain in my room backed up and with it came a nice clump of shaved hair.  Seems the reinvestment on this property is nil.

2.  The food.  Overpriced and disappointing every time I ate here.

This place is a step up from the Del Rey for newbie manger experience but I'm going to give the Hotel Little Havana or Freebird a try next time.

I don't know why so many people dis the Rey, I guess it's fashionable like Hollywood stars dissin' conservatives....

I've been coming to the Rey for 10 years, rooms on 3rd floor or higher aren't loud, I get fabulous service from the staff,

I can pick from over 100 girls at night, not 5 to 10 like HLH or SL.

Waitresses and bartenders are beautiful, too, so what, you can't get them, I'd rather have dozens and dozens to choose from that I CAN get...that's what the Rey offers

Food is good, albeit expensive, I run around and eat at Tico sodas most of the time anyway...

I think places like SL and HLH are more suited for guys who come with friends and want to swap bs stories and get drunk and enjoy comraderie in more intimate settings, but for me, I'm a poontang seeking missile when I come down here and logic tells me go to the place with the massive selection easily available...

I challenge anyone to explain to me why they think the Rey is so bad and these boutique hotels are so great, I just don't see it....

The Rey has crappy rooms and better ones are available nearby for the same or less
There is a chica fee
It has the best selection of girls, bar none, although that selection is heavily skewed towards the hard core mercenary chica, whereas many guys prefer to look for the less hardened type where they are likely to get more GFE

Ultimately it's a question of preference, but the typical line of thought is that the Del Rey is a great spot for a beginner to start, because it's all right there and it's a shooting fish on the barrel thing. Once you have your CR legs under you then you move on to more advanced/better options. Again, I say that this is a fairly typical line of thought for regulars, but that doesn't mean that it's correct n your case. If the Del Rey works for you then there's absolutely nothing wrong with using it. For me there's better options for girls elsewhere, at better prices, although I always enjoy stopping in for drinks and the spectacle. I almost never pull out of there.

I don't know why people say the rooms are bad, even though they are old and drab, they are always clean, the safe works, the showers work, the ac works, I don't come to CR to enjoy Ritz-Carlton luxury, I come to get poontang ! But I agree with you, the other hotels have their appeal, I think a lot of guys who complain about mercenary girls aren't looking and "qualifying" enough, I always pull great providers there but I cross examine them and read them the riot act first (in a nice sort of way), so I haven't been burned in years...

I agree there is a chica fee, but I usually nail an MP girl in the daytime and then nail a Rey girl at night, the extra $12 per day I chalk up to not having to run around at night or come to the Rey from other hotels and have to endure going out at night, by the time some of the guys who complain about chica fee pays the taxi, pays the chica taxi back (as a lot of them ask for if you take them from the Rey) and pay higher room fees than the Rey charges ($55) it balances out, plus I like no hassle at night, ride the vater down, pick your puta, ride it back up and start pounding all in 15 minutes !

I still troll HLH, NF and SL during the day and visit the MP's off of Paseo Colon, so I get my share of "bargains" then I don't mind occasionally spending 80 or even the dreaded cien on a super hottie model type that you can find at the Rey...

Goat was missing ??? Must have been a Santa Maria nut from the S. Florida group that got him. By the way, Jamaican Curry goat is delicious....

Are you serious?

The answer is: TEHO. Just like some people like to chug beer and others prefer to sip wine, it's a matter of CHOICE.

Logic dictates that not everyone has the same tastes, or the same tolerance you have for the hyper-kinetic Del Rey whore circus.

If you stay at the Del Rey, you either don't know any better or you are a hard-core monger whose only interest in travelling to Costa Rica is finding convenient pu$$y in one location.

You are here for cheap legal pu$$y and you want to be at the place where you can find the most pu$$y options without having to work too hard or venturing from your comfort zone - a circle 100 yards in diameter centered on the Pink Pu$$y Palace.

We get it. It's your thing, and TEHO applies.

Now on the other hand, other folks like quieter, more comfortable, and friendlier surroundings than the Del Rey cesspit of mercenaries. Or maybe they like to feel they're staying somewhere other than a whorehouse surrounded by panhandlers and hustlers. Or maybe they explore Costa Rica beyond the Gringo Gulch and like to stay at a hotel where they can actually have non- and semi-pros come over.

Over the years, places like the SL and HLA have proven conclusively there is a healthy market for boutique hotels offering niceR facilities, a laid back atmosphere, and convenient access to the main pu$$y marketplaces.

TEHO.

I agree, I've had friends stay at the Dunn, SL, and a couple other places and I must admit, they have pleasant settings away from the wild side but access to it, and if I were to come down with a bunch of friends and camaraderie and a nicer more intimate quieter place of lodging was the focus, these would be excellent choices. For the more experienced pro who is "frugal" Morazon is the way to go.
Me ? If you pull up "Smack dab in the middle" song on youtube by Buster Poindexter, that explains my position regarding my CR visits. I like being on the wild side. My issue is so many people just knee jerk negatives about the Rey like it's a terrible place to stay and these other places are hotbeds of Utopia, I was just setting the record straight, for those of us p#ss seeking missiles, it's the best choice and the hotel itself is not that bad.

Hotels to avoid; Presidente, overpriced, will hassle you about bringing girls when they promise over the phone they won't, and Hemingway, a stinking cesspool of filth, the only reason there are no cockroaches is they know better...

Monday May 31 2021 i went to the sportsmens lodge to have dinner. I told the young security guard that i would like to eat dinner there but i wasnt going to wear a mask when i was eating as they required at sportmen but at no other restaurants. He said he would check with the manager. He came back and he said the manager said it was ok. I entered and ate dinner. The waitress was ok with my not wearing the mask during dinner so i know the security guard had talked with someone. After dinner i left without consequence.

The next night on tuesday june 1 2021 i returned to have dinner with a friend at the sportsmen. Victor another security guard that has been there for years was policing tables for mask compliance. When he got to my table he told me i needed to put my mask on around my chin. I told him i wasnt going to do that because the manager said i didnt have to. I asked him whose rule that was and he said the police. I knew that was a big lie but they all say that there including the servers. I told him no other restaurants require that and that it had to be the policy of the owner. I said the owner can make what ever rules he wants because it is his property and likewise i can eat elsewhere if i dont agree but in this case the manager said i dont have to wear a mask and im not going to wear it.

Victor the security guard walked over beside the front desk behind a glass door and in a few moments walked back to my table with a little guy in glasses. I did not know who he was and had never seen him. He did not introduce himself or talk to me. Instead he shouted loudly at me: YOU ARE AN A......E... GET THE F....K OUT OF HERE. I found out later that this was little Man Fred the manager. He called the young security guy at the door to come in and physically throw me out. He was the same one i spoke with the previous night and he did not physically remove me because he remembered me and was apologetic and told me i was welcome back anytime.
They made me pay for the pina colada drink my friend had and i was just drinking a glass of water. I do not drink smoke or use drugs and never raised my voice a single time. I was not believing the names this little Man Fred was calling me. Nothing like this has ever happen in my 66 years on earth. I have always gone out of my way to avoid conflict. I was born and raised on a dairy farm in the Carolinas and have never been considered arrogant.
I dont know bill alexander the owner but what little i have heard about him was good. That is why I have reached out to him for several days now with no response.
Like i said the sportsmens is his property and he has every right to set the rules as he likes. I dont have to patronize if i dont agree. I have spent a lot of money staying there in years past.
This is all about being told indirectly by the manager i didnt have to wear the mask and then was agressively shouted at and insulted in every way possible by the same manager. There were several witnesses that will verify what i am saying as the truth. I hope there is some video of this too.
