With all due respect your self serving survey is a joke. I was a political scientist before I was a casino dealer or a lawyer and I can make any survey say pretty much whatever I want it to say. However, to your credit you have built a devoted loyal following. I realize you have put a lot of blood, sweat and money into your establishment. As a result of your hard work you have established a sucessful business for which you deserve an appropriate amount of credit.

Now in the interest of historical accuracy there was also one big thing that occurred that helped you enormously starting around 2007, 2008. That is when the Presidente started getting stupid with their chica policy. Before that your place was an afterthought to the CRT community. When you walked through your place , circa 2006, 2007, a person might have thought they were in the Humane Society and would expect to hear this song when walking through your venue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He82NBjJqf8 :P

Back then it was very difficult to get a room at the Prez, as it is with your place now. The only difference was the Prez was at least had 3X more rooms than your place. In terms of quality your rooms were not even close to the Prez. Back then nobody ever told me I should stay in your joint. I stayed at the Clarion when the Prez was full.

Slowly but surely they, the Prez, ran off their customers and many came to you. (others just quit coming to San Jose altogether) Again, to your credit you did a good job in converting them to SL customers. I have been going to San Jose for 7 years now as Memorial Day 2005 was my first trip. I have been in your establishment on about 50 occassions I have never heard anybody, other than you, rave about your food. While at your establishment the best I ever heard is people refereing to something on your menu as "ok" or "not bad". The only time I eat there is when I am with friends, who want to stay a while , and I am hungry as hell.

I would list the following venues in the gulch area as being superior to the SL in terms of food quality : In no particular order :

El Patio @ Bal Moral; Del Mar, Dunn Inn, HLH, La Esquina De Beunos Aires, Colonial, Costa Del Sol, La Amistad, The restaurant at the Holiday Inn and the Hamburger Factory.

Finally this is just one persons opinion if you dont like it you dont like it.

Any reference to Hamburger Factory means you're opinion sucks.

WOW, Really,
I have never stayed at an establishment where I was treated as well. The food was good, even made shrimp with my special request at cooking, but , ah phugg it, I am tired, just don't stay there, maybe they have a back room at the hamburger factory.

Wow never seen so much Animosity about the SL. Well my two cents I was a SL group and have only fond memories, But That was before the new bar and I could sit in the courtyard and smoke my cigars now I can not so I will hold my opinion.

I am retired and when I do visit I am going to stay with Bill and also go stay with Boyd so I can meet the man and see both places then I will have a new opinion mine is so old it really doesn't count anymore.

Then I will rent monthly somewhere.

I do detest the anger! I do know one thing that is Bills crew will treat me like a king and I expect Boyds will as well.

Hi Guy's

PS Bill can we smoke in the rooms? Boyd same question?

A few things, first, how much time and consideration did you put into your post? Second, why copy the entire quote and clutter up the board when the quote has already been copied before you? You have been on the board since it's inception and Admin has repeatedly ask us not to do it.

No anger but when someone, even Bill, states that the SL food is a 4.5 out of 5 , or exstrapulated out a 9 out of 10 I have to say BS. The food is not that good. Congrats on your retirement and do smoke your cigars in private as cigar smoke is brutal.

I started another thread in the restaurant section where we can continue our debate about food without bashing the SL.

i've stayed at SL three times now, after el Presidente closed down the chicas (I LOVED the penthouse suite at the Presidente...) and I always come back. I book ahead and stay in the quiet corner of the mansion, eat as much of the local fare as possible (the pescado entero is pretty darned good, not on the menu, just have to ask if they have any, as is the corvina al ajillo con pure), the bar is excellent, the girls are pleasant, laid back and ready to party, and the location is perfect. And the atmosphere is perfect for me. i'll be there July 20 for another wonderful week of fun.

Having stayed at the SL numerous times in the past here's my take. I don't stay there if there are no rooms available in the Modern or Mansion Wings. I highly value my quiet and there's no way I'd stay in the courtyard / bar section. The food is above average for Costa Rica, I've had numerous items on the menu and nothing I would consider bad. On a 1-10 scale I'd give the food a 5.5. The front desk is crew is beyond fantastic. Manfred, Yentzy, Carlos, and I forget the other names but they are all great. My only complaint regarding the staff is the sometime very unfriendly bar service. I was there this past January and the bar staff was completely revamped and to be honest I was less than impressed with the attitudes that I received. I'm always very polite, friendly but received the same treatment from maybe 2 of the gals behind the bar. Oh well. For me it's still the place to stay when rooms in the back are available although I think Bill's pricing is definitely a bit out of hand now.

1. About as much time as you spend finding a "good" hamburger in SJO. Seriously, Hamburger Factory?

2. Deleting the long quote is a good point. Doing so from an iPad is a pain in the ass, but I'll keep it in mind.

Presidente was my place for years till the rules changed. Moved around a little before trying SL. Have to say I'm sold on SL. I think the food is better than average and the place has a great atmosphere. The courtyard rooms are loud-but I like them (Buena Vida and Tranquiladad). If you want quiet, they have quiet rooms. LocoMike-you seem to have a bone to pick--- did you have some sort of traumatic experience at SL or something???

CLASSIC MUCHO GUSTO POST REPOSTED----------"THE FLOATER"

Ok, so this is my first time in CR....My best bud "Mucho Gusto" assures me of a weekend I'll not soon forget. After my first nights' experience, he was absolutely right! I will not EVER forget my first tica. As a matter of fact, I was thinking about how I could possibly get through 3 more nights of this......... Here's the dirty details.

It's my first day in SJO, and Mucho Gusto insists on taking me to the BM for a drink. I walk in, and I'm speechless. MG's standing there, looking at my facial expressions, and laughing. We do a quick walk-thru the BM, and decide to grab a table in the lobby bar, where it wasn't so hectic. I was totally overwhelmed. I was only in the bar for 3 minutes, and I'd already had my d*ck grabbed at least 4 times, and already gotten eye-ph*cked at least a dozen times! I'm thinking..... Is this place for real ???

So, we're sitting and having our 1st cocktail, when a semi-good looking tica overhears our conversation about my being intimidated by all the action around me. Like in a chess game, she maneuvers from chair to chair until she is eventually sitting right next to me. She assures me she won't bite.... (In hind sight, I wish that wasn't the only thing she would have assured me of) but I'm getting to that!

Anyway, she wasn't the most beautiful chica in the house, but Mucho Gusto suggests (maybe) just going with her for a quicky, just to get rid of the "nuisance batch", and then come down for some different luvin later. After poor negotiation on my part (and against MG's monetary advice), she and I head over to the SL. Like an idiot, I let the little head make the decision for me. This was my 1st newbie mistake.

Now to set the tone......
My room (SL - Felizadad) had no air conditioning, only a small fan on the side of the room, facing the bed. We get into the room and immediately get naked. As soon as our clothes hit the floor, she decides to start a pillow fight with me. A pillow fight ??? What the ph*ck ??? I haven't got a clue why she wants to pillow fight. I assume it is some kind of weird CR ritual or foreplay or something. While fanning pillows at me, I start to get a whiff of what I could only assume was a dead, rotting howler monkey that had gotten under my mattress. But then she starts DFK'ing me, and I let go of my concerns for the moment.

At this point, she throws me on the bed, slaps a cover on junior, and proceeds to climb on top (so far, so good). We start getting into it, and now I am starting to forget about the (former) howler monkey aroma, and I'm starting to feel better about the whole session. I reach up and start gently fondling her breasts, and as I am doing this, she starts moaning and talking to me. "Ahhhh, mi amor, muy rico, el guapo, mi papasito"..... Now, things are getting interesting, and we're both hot and horny. Then, I start to feel a light spray on my face and chest, kinda like a pinhole in a water balloon.

I try to comprehend what is going on, and as I look for the source of this spray, I finally notice she is lactating...... HEAVILY. My hands, my face, my chest, and her teta's were soaked with a nasty, watery, milky, sticky substance that actually made me throw up in my mouth a little. Now (under my breath) I start cursing Mucho Gusto for recommending this chica for my 1st pop. But then I realized that he (in a very subtle way) told me I could find someone for less. But I, in fact, was the idiot for letting my little head negotiate with this chica.

So, needless to say, with all of these erotic happenings, Mr. Johnson no longer wants to play (if you get my drift). She is okay with that, and immediately dismounts. She lays next to me (sideways), and starts giving me a CBJ, trying to help get junior's attention again. I'm lying there, staring at the ceiling, trying to concentrate, and trying to get the painful images from the past few minutes out of my mind. Suddenly, I am literally overcome with that earlier smell of the decaying carcass under my bed. It hits me like a freight train, burning both of my eyes, actually causing them to tear up. I even tried placing a pillow over my head. This STILL had little effect. Damn..... WHAT DID THIS CHICA EAT ?!?!?!?!

This same, exact smell hits me every 45 seconds for a few minutes, and fills the room with an un-forgettable aroma (remember.... no air conditioning). Suddenly, my tica excuses herself to the bathroom, where she proceeds to peel the paper off the walls with a solid (and audible) 10 minute POWER DUMP!!!

I seriously contemplated murder at that point...not her, but Mucho Gusto...."That Bastard!", I thought. I tried to drown out the noises coming for the bathroom, but couldn't. Where was my IPOD when I needed it!?!?!

By the time she came out of the bathroom, I had already gotten up, and gotten dressed. Put a fork in me..... I'm DONE! She finished her marathon dump and closed the bathroom door behind her (but left the fan on)! After seeing me dressed, she decides to follow suit. But it's not over yet!

She walks to the edge of the bed, picks up her purse, and proceeds to slap on a fresh panty liner inside her thong before putting it back on. Jesus H... can it get any ph*cking worse? I didn't think so, but (one again) I was wrong. She was SPOTTING too ??? WTF!

We parted ways with half a smile, glad to be rid of any trace of that nightmare of an experience (although her farts had some serious hang-time.... STILL LINGERING) !! About a half hour later, I felt brave enough to open the bathroom door and go in, and........ SURPRISE. It's STILL not over with. I look in the throne, and what do I find ??? You got it! A FLOATER IN THE BOWL!!! I know these chica's love their rice and beans, but.... COME ON!!! Enough is enough! I can't believe she left me a ph*cking floater!

Guys, I couldn't make this sh*t up! This is CR ??? Is this what I had to look forward to for the rest of the weekend??? Well.... Thank God it went straight up hill after that first experience, and I now (even after this nightmare) am hooked on the whole experience! It took a beautiful Colombiana, and a couple repeat sessions to get over it, but it worked!

And.....By the way, thanks to Mucho Gusto after all!

Good retort BigDan  , a burger combo at the Hamburger factory, with a side of fries or salad plus a soda will run you $5-$6, an alpo burger with similar type sides at the SL would cost you close to double. However, I am a burger fan, by that I mean a legit burger not a fast food one. When thinking about it I think the only good burger I had in the gulch was the monster burger at La Amistad which cost around $12.00, the rest of the places are average to below average.

Maybe a guilty pleasure but I like Hamburger Factory. :D As I don't eat that type of food often, it is a rare occasion though. Burgers and wings only lead to dickie do disease...
