Thought I would weigh in , having just stayed there for 10 nights.
Reception Staff: All very charming : Andrea , Yancy , Paola, Susan ( apologies for misspellings ) There was not a thing these girls would not do to attend to any issue I had. Nothing annoyed them and they ALL helped create an ambience I have come to enjoy at SL. Process to check-in and check-out is smooth as silk. Friendly and sweet , not something you find everywhere in the hospitality trades. 5 stars out of 5 stars.
Rooms: I know that , personally, in the future, I will choose a room out of the Mansion Wing , i.e. the Mono Room , as opposed to other areas that are a bit noisier but much cheaper. As far as those that complain, I mean what do you expect : you're not staying at a Holiday Inn Express and there is alot of upside and convenience to the SL atmosphere that offsets any downside in noise you experience in the Clubhouse rooms. You should know that going into the deal , so set your expectations correctly. If rooms adjoin a bar , there will be noise , but there are SL options to avoid that. Spend a little more for enhanced privacy and soundproofing. It might be well worth it , if you're a light sleeper or unable to adapt. And , there's no doubt that SL staff will take care of maintenance issues and the like and they are supportive in all housekeeping requests. 4.8 of 5 stars ( but I have not stayed in Mansion Wing , so that may raise my score )
Food and Beverage: The menu, contrary to some of the posts here, contains some healthy options , if you seek that out. There is salad and rice with many of the entrees, not just fries and other potato options. I would not say it is a 100% artery-clogging experience eating at SL , if you look a little harder. There are grilled veggies ,as well, and , in particular, with the Chicken Cordon Bleu, which I personally liked very much and so did anybody else I dined with who chose it. Compare that to the Amistad , where it was more expensive ( tried it once up there ) and not nearly as good. Plus they gave me fries instead of mashed , as the menu stated , and just said "oh , sorry ". I know the SL would fix an issue like that, because that is how they run the business. They like to know people are happy and will come back. They do take pride in customer service , I observed ( This was my 3rd stay with the SL , btw ) Costs are fairly reasonable , given the current economy of the area in general now. San Jose CR is just not as cheap as it used to be, period. 4.8 of 5 stars
Bar Staff: Kimberly , the lead Bartender/Manager has put together a great staff of girls and it wouldn't do justice for me not to mention they are all hot , some downright beautiful. It's nice to sit at a bar and have some nice scenery in your line of vision. Este es buena vista , for certain. And , even when busy, I could get the service I needed and usually with a smile. Try getting that down at the Blue Marlin. 4.99999 of 5 stars.
Hotel Patrons: 95% friendly guests staying there and I probably made 2 dozen friends or so during my stay. No aggressive attitudes , just mainly American Gringo types down there for a good time and were easy to talk to. I hope to see some of these guys again and have alot of email addresses , etc. A more personable situation than , say , at the HDR or Morazon, although I'm not knocking them , its just the SL suits me just fine. 4.85 out of 5 stars.
Working girls: Did not have a single problem. Nothing missing from the room, all were friendly and nice and there was limited personal drama. They mostly kept things light and breezy , provided their services and showed respect to the patrons, for the most part. As mentioned elsewhere , they are screened prior to entry , so that added a level of security and comfort. I try to remember they are trying to make a living and provide a service and many are supporting hijos and etc. Respect is always a 2 way street. 4.75 out 5 stars
By the way, there was a Hawaiian - Themed Birthday Party for Gabriela in the Bar , where Mariachi Dancers were brought in, during my stay. This was way cool , the music was fantastic and costumes were beautiful, as well as the girls wearing them. A good time was had by all , quite a blast.
SL checks off all the boxes for me, no place is perfect , but I have enjoyed my vacations at this place and feel Mgmt should be given credit where credit is due. Thanks Bill and Dan. Kudos.
