I might have to go down during this time frame this year. Yes, I know it's rainy but is is a real washout or just a daily shower and then sun. Anyone know how the Caribbean coast is at this time? I'd like to grab a chic and get back to banana Azul. How about hotel specials if it is slower?
Thanks

I believe the weather in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is sunny and hot during this time of year. I spent two Labor Day weekends in PV in the past, and there was not a drop of rain.

I was there for 10 days last October, and it rained for nine of the ten days. The year before that it would only rain about once a day. I usually come down in October to take advantage of the green season and celebrate my birthday, but be prepared cus it might rain just a bit or it might just be a downpour.

Not yanking Brother Whitecat's chain at all, but this Thread's title is a wee misleading--add "Caribbean" to it --perfecto. That area of the Republic is that different. Now the conciliation: He chose an excellent lodge in PV. Colin the co-owner has posted here as Colinsito and has friend-of-house status. He is also on TripAdvisor and has posted there many 1000's times. His house: http://www.bananaazul.com/
There is this very helpful Site on PV--enjoy the surf! http://www.puertoviejosatellite.com/

I live near the west coast and in sept/oct/nov= rain and more rain. Generally everyday. But, it is beautiful as well. A lot of things are in bloom, the waterfalls are going off!, the rivers are truly something to behold and a LOT of earth moves. This part of the country/world really comes to life. It is incredible to observe.
An old tico rule of thumb: if it is raining here, the sun is blazing in Las Bocas.

Go for it........ 8)

I'm glad this was posted before I asked. Seems a compact umbrella just made the packing list.

SR had it right I think. A walk in the rain to the HLH beats out a sunny drive to work any day...but if it's raining too much, I'll make do at the SL where I'll be staying in October.

and like fieldtech says, i'd walk to HLH in the POURING sjo rain like gene kelley

I have felt that way leaving HLH several times.....making me wonder which is better? The anticipation of arriving at SL/HLH/etc. or the satisfaction felt when leaving that establishment? I can't decide. More research on the subject is needed for me to make a decision.

If you hang out in the very rural country side, you rarely see an umbrella. Fact of life, they are going to get wet and so be it.

I've walked to HLH from the Amistad (and back in some cases as well) in a hard rain several times. Yup, a good compact travel umbrella is very useful, and I always bring one. Gore-Tex running shoes are also very helpful in dealing with the deep runoff and puddles that result from those downpours. :D

For me the worst part of rainy season is the absolute necessity to watch where I'm walking--some of those sidewalk potholes are leg-breakers if stepped into, and, if full of water, you can't tell by looking.

I come down every October. I love the green season but be prepared for a lot of rain. Not so crowded, still plenty of compania and the rates are usually discounted. Generally a bit of sun in the morning but the afternoon rains can be torrential. The good thing is that it usually will clear up a bit after dark so you can still get around at night without getting soaked.
