I always take the jet blue nonstop Orlando to San jose flights in June or July and usually pay from 240 to 320 all in. This summer the rates range from 600 to 900. What the hell? I know fuel is up but damn. I may as well go to Brazil for that price. |

Saw the same thing, I booked my flight back on march 23rd for my July 11-19th trip. I payed $433 roundtrip, then it went down 67 total round trip which Jetblue credited a future flight for me. That same flight today is now up to $702, which is down from it being $737 yesterday. I don't know what the reasoning is but they are gone crazy with the flights for July. I looked at November and its same low 300 that it normally is from orlando. |

If you can plan a few months in advance, that flight between Orlando and SJO is about $330 to $350 RT. I've booked those prices for June and October. October was 351.43 booked a couple of days ago. It was 322.00 a couple of days before that, but I missed that fare. I am fortunate to have an advantage to be able to plan ahead. Short notice costs more money, of course, but it's still great to get to SJ at any price. RAC |

i noticed it too from LA so i ended up booking may 16 instead of waiting for june/july. i tend to check the travel sites 3 or 4 times daily with what i am looking for and changing dates back and forth. surprising how many times i find nonstops for much cheaper than one or two stops depending. always look at sun thru thursday departure/return but sometimes it works friday/sat. perseverance pays off. lets hope these rates haven't come to stay. |

I always waited even later than now to book July trips and it was never over 350 on jet blue. They have lost their friggin minds. Hopefully no one pays that price and lack of demand drives it lower. The other option is American with a stop in Miami. Spirit is not an option I am willing to consider as they are the worst US airline. |

I have just checked a number of different days going 9 months forward on 3 different airlines and there wasn't more than a $5 difference on any of the flights, so I'd say mergers and some price collusion are the culprits |

Until midnight tonight you can type 3L2DQ3S4 in the promo box at www.jetblue.com/promo and get $75 off. I think it is good for flights up until June 20. It will show up as a discount on the right after selecting the dates if it works. |

jetBlue's latest website really sucks. Before you could look at a week at a time for each way and see what days would be cheaper. They changed their price from displaying one way to round trip and don't show the prices for the rest of the week. Also because of the round trip part you now have to select your departure date and then one by one click return dates and then pick the following day for departure and repeat and so on. Using the above code I found May 10 - 13 and May 10 - 14 for $336 total, and May 18 - 21 for $311 MCO-SJO. |

Yes, I noticed that. I'm also having a lot of trouble booking out of NY because after the United/Continental merger, it no longer seems possible to get Copa fairs through Continental. Hope these aren't long-term trends.

expansion and contraction in the market is a natural cycle. It is when government is in the election mode and wants to fix something for votes that it gets screwed up. Look at the the up starts like, Southwest, Jet blue, Air Tran. Some smart young fella will come in and grab the market by the tail and make the big boys take notice. Point in case is the relitively small price we do pay for travel. In 1980s I flew twice a month to Europe and also to the Islands. Price are about the same and in some cases less. Have hart, it all changes. When we get the dollar back above the Canadian Dollar and the Euro life will start to get better fast. |

I try to fly TACA from Chicago because 2 bags free and decent food, seat room, free drinks, movie, but can you believe July on TACA online is almost sold out? Confirmed that with mi amigo at TACA Chicago today. Who is going to CR from Estados in July? A friend of mine said maybe people now afraid of Mexico. But are they they hip to the green season? I was lucky to get a seat for end of May for $670. I flew in Jan and in Feb for $550 + or -. Checking US airlines on line, similar pricing for end of May with really bad departure and layover times, and alot more $$ for good itineraries, the only thing left. And yet car rental prices were dirt cheap, 1 week for $120 with Budget incl/ taxes. I paid more than $300 in Feb. And I Got Sleep INN for $80 per, and my favorite beach condo for $20 less per. If fuel cost is the airlines answer, why can I fly to Europe for much less than that routinely. |

Unfortunately it's getting harder and harder for those competitively priced start ups to gain access. The huge companies that result from mergers have plenty of cash and political influence to deny access to competition. It's happening with Southwest at Hobby Airport http://www.journalgazette.net/article/2 ... 6/1031/BIZ , Peoples Express, which is trying re-enter the market as a low cost carrier is running into the same problem. |

DGD wrote: ...If fuel cost is the airlines answer, why can I fly to Europe for much less than that routinely. Europe is a big business-travel market, the airlines make big bucks off of business-class fares, which I believe allows them to offer low-cost economy fares for the tourists. Plus there's lots of competition from the major East Coast airports. CR is strictly a tourist destination, lots of you money-losing cheapskates trying to get dirt-cheap tickets. ![]() ![]() I think that the airlines would rather concentrate on the profitable Europer and Asia routes and cut everything else. |

Hope these aren't long-term trends. In all the kerfuffle about airline mergers, acquisitions, bankruptcies, one group seems lost in the shuffle: us customers. Here's an article on Customer Committees: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/28/your- ... money.html << Particularly relevant about Frequent Flyer miles. |
