City Council is scheduled next month to consider granting Southwest permission to build a customs facility at Hobby so the low-cost carrier can fly to Cancun, Mexico, the Caribbean and other Latin American destinations as far away as Caracas, Venezuela.

No busting here but from this Thread's headline, I thought SWA might have sociological data showing our hobby had expanded so quickly and hugely that 10K more folks were needed to take care of us. My bad.

if Southwest expands to South America I will be very happy. I just checked flights for October on UA, and they are almost double what they would have been under Continental.

This is the first time I have looked at flights in over a year, and it's f-n ridiculous the prices these days.

I used to be able to go visit friends on Austin the night before a flight and save a lot ov money by flying from there, but not anymore.

Definately would welcome some competition from Southwest airlines. after continental has merged with United prices have gone up drastically. Some of the cost associated with higher fuel and operating expenses. Now we pay more and get less. With a little competition that might change a little. Tux

Not only to SJO and MDE, maybe I could finally get a break to DR.

I'll bet the bribe money is flowing. Government being what it is.

Very expensive to fly to the DR. We even have competition here in NY with Jet Blue. I went a few years ago and it was double the price to fly to CR. I could not imagine what it is now. Have not checked lately. tux

Hope this goes thru. On the news tonight about possible hostile takeover of American Airlines by US Airways. Would take current 5 major airlines down to 4.. Less airlines, less competition , thus higher prices.

Did not hear that about the hostile takeover of American Airlines. Less airlines means less competition and therefore higher prices for the consumer. Anyone hear about this US Air / american hostile takeover? Tux

Here's the news to date, as related by the NYTimes: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/21/busin ... nions.html
Management and labor getting together to make this happen? Now that's unusual.

From what I have read... not much... most of AA work force likes the idea
Pilots... not so much... they stand to loose

No expert in this area .. but that would make for a mega airline... hubs in Charlotte, Mia , Plilly, Pittsburg and DFW

AA is strugling with an old fleet.. do not know about US air

It may be a good thing :?:

Let AA come out bankrupsy first ... is what I think.. I read that somewhere... google usair take over of AA and form your own opions

What will the livery be

American Airlines
US Airlines

May save on paint
