what is the reasoning behind the aisle sear arm rest being in a fixed lowed position, but the middle seats arm rest can be raised up out of the way.

Seems for safety reason in case of emergency getting the aisle seat arm rest up and out of the way would be a good idea. Not to mention making it a lot easier for most people to get into their seats.

This goes back to the earliest seats on horse and buggys. In those time the seats were made of wood with a lambskin cover. Many riders were very....................

No, sorry, just an attempt at humor.

I thinks its to keep people out of the isle to allow room for the food carts & flight attendant to pass. They aint skinny like they used to be. :?

You will notice that most aisle seats do not go up. Some aisle seats have armrests that go up because they are designated for use by passengers in wheelchairs, if there are any. This makes access for them easier.

The 737 has a button under the aisle rest you can push to raise it. Question Has anybody thought that the 2 inside arm rests should go to the person stuck in the middle seat ? When I fly I always let the person have it. Sometimes I get stuck in the middle and I try to use them. OK Just a random thought. Safe travels Uncle H .

Yes, this kind of stuff comes naturally to me. I usually sit in a window seat and lean toward the wall to allow the person in the middle seat the arm rest.

But I believe we are in the minority here, or at least in the minority of the people that post ... viewtopic.php?f=1&t=39164

I used to think that the inside armrests went to the person in the middle seat. I've slightly modified that now to be that the person in the middle has priority to where they want to rest their arms, and then any remaining free armrest space is available.
