I plan to do some eco tourist stuff while in CR, Some near Uvita, and some near Manual Antonio. From what I understand Interbus is a good route. However, i am traveling solo and they all seem to charge double. Rates from San Jose - Uvita is $130 . Manual Antonio - San Jose is $90. Anyone know of any other reliable , cheaper travel options?

Regular bus from SJ, pretty cheap, 4 hs? Or fly Sansa or Nature Air, 25 minutes to Quepos, $80? last time I looked and then bus from Quepos to Uvita, cheap.

I would go with the comfort of Interbus. It's relatively cheap and MUCH more comfortable and safer than the public bus. By safer, I mean that you can put your stuff down without worrying that you'll never see it again.

-San Jose-Manuel Antonio $42.75 each way
-IB doesn't go directly to Uvita. You'd have to figure out what the closest destination to Uvita is.

Choosing your mode of transportation depends upon what you want to do at your destination... and how many destinations you wish to reach. I think Interbus is a happy medium between taking a regular bus and renting a car. Renting a car affords more flexibility, but is also one of the more expensive options. Flying is quick, but a little more costly... and once you reach your destination airport you will need ground transportation anyways. I've used Interbus many times in CR, and found them to be reliable, comfortable and affordable (even though the prices have increased at least 30% since I first used them.) And yes, there is no need to worry about losing your luggage.

Anyway to avoid the double charge. Min of 2 persons, so traveling solo they all want to charge double...Even with that, is it still the way to go?

Are you talking about Interbus?

There is no double charge on Interbus. At least not on a Shared Ride route, you might be thinking of a private charter. It's like a bus only smaller (large van) and private.

The rates are one-way though, so you'll have to pay for a return trip.

Yeah, that's not Interbus.

IB charges per person each way.

I've been doing a little research on travel within costa rica or to bocas del toro in Panama and found this site.

http://www.costaricajust4u.com/transfers.htm

I'm a newbie with only one trip to Costa Rica and I've never used this service. Maybe someone else has and can speak to the level of service but the prices are very reasonable for one way service, and a great way to see the country.

San Jose - Manuel Antonio
US$39

San Jose - Dominical
US$36

This is basically the same type of service as Interbus. The prices seem a little lower (not by much), but contact them to verify that they are good because on their website, it says these are 2009-2010 prices. It is now 2012. Prices tend to rise quickly and sharply in CR.
