Ok fellows - Looking for reasonably priced hotel $60-120 range that will still offer me the fun of the gulch. What is the best option? Ive heard good things about them all. Maybe there is one diff from the listed three???

The first two on your list are great- the second I cannot speak of, but gets slightly more mixed responses. SL is far more clubby and chummy (and the girls are there), La Amistad is only a block away, and is 100% monger freindly, but feels less like a monger hotel. If you want to party hard where you stay-the Sportsmans, if you want a bit of a refuge from the partying (but so very close), La Amistad.

The Dunn Inn used to be my favorite until I sensed that it was becoming very Tico oriented. If other members see it differently please let me know and be specific if it is not like that anymore. The Amistad is an excellent choice if you want a laid back place right near the action. I am going to try Boyd's HLH this Super Bowl weekend to see how that one stacks up to the rest. I never stayed at the SL because it was too much of a party atmosophere for my liking in a hotel, I know the HLH is too, but Boyd showed me the new room section far enough away from the tumult. The SL owner Bill is a great guy by the way.

All 3 are great choices.

Sportsman has it all, great rooms (my fav is the Mansion wing), girls, and restaurant.

Dunn has great rooms (new queen rooms w/ flat screen for $60 w/crt discount are a great deal), solid restaurant, nice staff.
> They are about to open a new area called the VIP Room where there will be chicas waiting for you to service them  )

LaAmistad has the best free breakfast of the three, great owners. I find the rooms inconsistent..the good are very good, the bad are not "bad", just a bit outdated and noisy. jmho

Zunbake3: never see Tico's staying at the Dunn. I have seen a couple of special events in Rick's Cafe that were Tico business people.

And don't forget Boyd at the HLH is offering $35 an hour if you pull one of his Chicas in a room you are staying at there. That basically got me booked in there for Suberbowl Sunday, not to mention some real nice rooms and they have mirrors!! Although you have to see Boyd every day, thats rough but an eye opener for sure, LOL!! Who loves ya Boyd!!

Appreciate all the great responses. How do the prices compare? Are they all pretty much the same in terms of Price to quality ratio? Im leaning towards the SL and La Amistad

I've stayed at all, and am definitely a Amistad guy. Not that the others were bad, but I liked the no chicas at Amistad. Nice to go back to a respectable hotel and and mingle with some regular folks too. SL is definitely a party atmosphere, and Dunn is good too. But Matt, the owner at Amistad, has always gone out of his way to make things perfect for me, price is right, and the free breakfast is a nice touch.

I've stayed at all three. My preference after quite a few years is still Sportsmens. For me, if SL can't provide me a room when I want to go I either reschedule or don't go. I like being able to party with friends at SL, select the best of the GFE possibilities, go back to partying with friends, sleep late the next day and still be able to have breakfast and a good morning blowjob whenever I choose. ONLY the Sportsmens provides this for me. :D :D Having a locker there also makes things easier when you are a frequent visitor. The delight of Sportsmens is being able to respond to chica opportunties as they arise compared to going to del Rey and trying to create opportunities to bring back to the hotel. Sounds like I've become a lazy monger, but I seem to do ok.

as someone who just left Amistad less than a week ago, here you go. Management at Amistad is great, rooms are nice and it is definately more of a non monger feel at the hotel. HOWEVER!
The train goes literally 50 ft from the front door and runs the horn from 5:30 am till 8:30 am every half hour and LITERALLY SHAKES THE BUILDING. It also does the same thing starting at 4:00pm
So, unless you have a train horn fetish I would pass. HLH is a great joint and a great value- just a little rougher area of town. Middle of the road is Sportsmans- nice joint, good food, and management is also very cool- hope this helps and have fun!

I have gotten used to the trains at La Amistad. More of an issue is the loud mongers who either leave their doors open and party with their crew or feel compelled to yell and scream in the hallways at all hours. That can happen at any hotel though.
I have stayed at the Dunn Inn when Boyd was there and liked the place. Would love to try the Sportsmans, but every time I have tried, all but the Courtyard rooms have been booked for weeks, if not months.
HLH is on my list too, now that Boyd has turned it around. It would be fun to roll out of the sack for eggs, then back in the sack for legs.

I have stayed at the Amistad at least 6 times. I have never had a problem with noise at all. So far it is the best choice in my humble opinion although admittedly I need to try a few more places to get a better comparison. I have only stayed at the Del Rey and Sportsmen as well. I still like the sportsman as well but, it is hard to get a room at the last minute and I can always rely on Matt to work something out for me.

First post, been doing cr for 15 years.my 2 cents.presidente was great, but no more. Del Rey got to be a pain.sportsman is very good but I would avoid the $59 rooms. My personal choice now is Morazan if you pick the right room. Ideal for newbie because the location is the best in cr. $52 for standard room, tax and breakfast included.hotel is right next to Key Largo and across the street from Del Rey. I would say sportsman except for location.

Is the Morazon reasoanbly quiet by Gulch standards?

The rooms facing the street are very noisy. The rooms looking out over Key Largo and the park are pretty quiet. When making a reservation you have to ask for the discount with breakfast. This is not a fancy hotel but is clean and has an unbeatable location. 1st floor casino then 4 floors of rooms. Sportsman is real nice but you need a cab at night when leaving Del Rey or Key Largo. Morazan is right next to Key Largo and across the street from Del Rey. Both are good choices.

Are you talking about the Del Rey? I don't think that was on his list of three to choose between.

I also have to disagree with your statement that the rooms facing the KL are quiet. Maybe the top floor ones, but the one time I stayed there, I was on the 3rd floor on that side and the noise never stopped until after 3am. Even after the KL closed, there was still the mongers coming in and out of the bar downstairs, the homeless people playing instruments on the street or that crazy crack head woman screaming all night and finally, the phucking cabs! In San Jose, honking the horn is a national sport! No, while I think the HDR is definitely something every monger should stroke off their bucket list at least once in their lives, I'll never repeat there. I like the LA myself. Stay away from the rooms on the East side if you'll be bothered by the train. The rooms on the South side are very quiet, IMO. 201 especially is very quiet as it has no outside windows and is pretty much in the middle of the hotel.
