Interesting article - shows you the "casualness" of todays society.

Have you ever see pictures taken during the Depression of the '30's - poor, out of work guys wearing ties, and often suits - things started changing in the '70's - in the 50's and 60's, you went somewhere, you invaribly dressed up.

I did find a quote in the article interesting:

"And perhaps they figure, if we {talking about airline employees} had to dress well to fly, what's up with all the passengers who get to sit in first class dressed like Richard Simmons?"

I was a commercial lender for most of my business career, and frequently called on business owners dressed casually, when we (I) had a dress code the mandated a suit and tie - I never "resented" the fact that a business owner dressed much less formally then I - maybe the above quote is one of the things wrong with the avaition industry

(Be thankful they are doing business with you; your dress code has zero to do with how your customer dresses  )

I would have liked to have been around in those well dressed days. I like suits myself. Probably because I have never HAD to wear them. PRobably would be a hassle today with the airport nazis shaking everybody down. As far as jeans. As long as they are decent jeans a man can go almost anywhere. I like to dress them up at times by wearing a blazer with them.

I often wonder about the people that have on their beach attire when returning to a cold climate.... flip flops and shorts are real nice if you find yourself on the tarmac after an incident with the aircraft. I have many Nature Air flight under my belt , and after seeing the terain,I never fly in shorts.... if I am lucky enough to survive that crash, aint no way of going to far in shorts and sandles

Dress is a matter of your own saftey as well

Seat belt miss use is also a pev of of mine... Wear it all the time, as tight as you can get it for take off and landings... lots of people get hurt for not being straped in

Yes air travel was once grand... read up on the Pan American Clipper Ships

I have a pair of 100% leather upper & lower slip on shoes I wear only when flying. I never take them off during take off and always have them on for landing, Just in case. Nikes melting to my feet , running off a plane is almost worse than the alternative.
