I am booked on Copa from LAX to SJO in just over a week. Traveling in Business Class. I was told when I made my reservation that Copa is now "VERY STRICT" when it comes to baggage weight limits. Normally with most airlines if your luggage is overweight by say 5 or 10 pounds you pay the excess baggage fee and you're on your way. The agent at Copa gave the impression that you MUST stay within the limit and if you are over I guess you will have to empty some things out and leave them behind and that they won't allow you to even pay for being over limit. The same applies to carry-on. I believe the carry-on limit is 20 lbs. I'm wondering whether any recent COPA travelers have experienced this issue and if so please comment. Thx.

I believe CR may have baggage embargoes in place at this time of year. You can go on Copa's website to check their policies. If an embargo is in place, then often they will not allow extra bags or overweight bags depending on the country you are going to.
