being flying the LAX to SJO route for quite a 5 years now but never had i done anything but nonstops until this last flight. but with prices going up i took the extra stop and hour and a half layover in el salvador. was really surprised by how aggressive they are about drugs there. they had drug sniffing dogs all over the airport and did a very thorough search of my carry on and person. just a heads up. wanted to see salvadorian currency but found out they have used american currency since 2001. |

They also have a pretty decent bar where you can also smoke. |

i think you are talking about the bar down the main aisle 50ft on the right. had a drink there and i agree its a good place to chill for a minute. walked the airport and its one of those places that sells the same tourist crap over and over. |

Yes, that's it....I had time for a double Jack and coke and a beer, and three cigarettes, that was my first trip to Costa Rica, will never forget it. I was not a member of CRT, and had never heard of CRT. I booked a flight with a layover in Belize, then San Salvador. Since then, I fly direct on CONtinental, having joined the frequent flyer program. I have been upgraded to first class 4 times. On a separate note, on that first trip, I got checked into the Castillo by 11:00pm and by 11:30 I had showered and was ready for a beer, not knowing anything at all about CR, I asked the clerk at the hotel where I could get a beer, he directed me to Sportsmans Lodge. Now, this being my first trip, I can still vividly remember the sights, the smells...and excitement....as I walked toward SL...as I said in a trip report a long time ago. When I went into the bar, it was before the new addition of the lounge area...but the bar was packed...another member remarked that they close at midnight, well, I need to look at my passport for the date, but it must have been a special occasion, because, i knew at that point, that I had found my personal nirvana ![]() ![]() |

I prefer five hour layovers in SAL. It gives me plenty of time to have my regular driver pick me up for a session at Kiss Fresh for some pupusa before getting my pupusa back at the airport. Yum! |
