LOL. I've worked in aviation for over 17 years. You don't have to tell me about how "not-hot" FA's are - for the most part - these days.

I disagree on the story though. It has nothing to do with deregulation. IMO, it's the change in the status of women's rights and the rise of FA unions as well as the fact that most FA's are in it for a career now. Before, a good percentage of FA's were just looking for a rich pilot husband and a way to travel the world for dirt cheap.

Political correctness has destroyed the "stewardess" culture just as much as it has done for places like Hooters. Air Canada is the worst example of that too, IMO. Just on my last trip home from CR, I was traveling on an interline pass which is standy-by space available only and I luckily got the last seat on the airplane to Toronto. It was the seat at the back that the flight attendants usually have locked out so they have a place to sit when they are on break. For 5 and a half hours, I had to sit there and listen to the FA's sit in the back and bitch and moan about their contract. They did their mandated two services for the flight and ignored everyone for the rest of the time. All 4 FA's, with the exception of the Spanish speaking one they had on this flight, were mid 40's, overweight, plain looking and peevish. Nothing like the woman I joined the mile high club with back in the early 90's :D

Most U.S. airlines have flight attendants that are not pleasant on the eyes. I was in Zona Blue before it was HLH and I was talking to this guy at the bar. I told him I just flew down on Continental and he stated to me he was probably my pilot. I asked him what happened to the days of the hot stewardesses and he replied we refer to the ones on Continental as "widebodies."

If you are looking for attractive "flight attendants" try any airline besides a US carrier. Here is a sample from my adventures that I would place in the whack library: 1. TACA, 2. Avianca, 3. Singapore 4. Virgin Atlantic, 5. KLM. 6. TAM, 7. LAN -they all fly to our favorite monger destinations. I'm sure it's the same with other foreign carriers as I have seen them walking through international airports.

If you fly KLM you are likely as not to get a codeshare operated by Delta. I flew Delta BOS - AMS this past spring. In both directions it was operated by Delta with a DL flight number but it was also codeshared with KLM and had a KLM flight number. I was trying to get a flight on a non-US carrier because they mostly have a reputation as being somewhat nicer to fly on. Anyway, all the FAs in coach were men anywhere between late 20s and mid 40s. I don't think that that's what most of us are after when it comes to looking for eye candy.

Also, for some odd reason, booking it as a KLM flight cost something like $100 more in each direction, for what was presumably the exact same seat on the exact same aircraft. WTF, over?

Same shit happened when Taca and United were partners about 2-3 years ago. Booking the flight on United you paid about $200 more than on Taca. I think the difference is the "fee" that the airline you book with charges for getting you on the other airlines flight.

Feminazis have ruined hot stewardesses. Now, it's bitches with bad attitudes who were probably hot when they started in 1980 and were called stewardess. Does any body ever Phuck with them and call them stewardess. "Excuse me stewardess, can you bring me a cup of water?"   At lesat the Latin airlines still have some hotties, and a bunch of gay guys.

I almost never can to call them flight attendants. I still say stewardess from force of habit. Has gotten me more than one stinkeye from the stewardesses.

We have a few "pet" names for them in the hanger...

- Biscuit Hurlers
- Galley Hag (or Fag) - depending on sex - The book of cabin defects they maintain so we can fix them at night is affectionetly called the "Hag Snag" book :)
- Sandwich Mechanic

What was really scary was that I cut my teeth in the industry flying with our aircraft all over the high arctic as an apprentice mechanic. I had to bed the aircraft down at night in remote communities and then prep it in the morning. But in some of these small towns, they only had a limited number of hotel rooms and more then once, some of the crew had to share rooms. Usually I would share with one of the pilots, but once it was just me and this real flamer of a flight attendant name Gilles left and only one room available. I was gathering up the engine covers and spare blankets to go sleep in the aircraft (even though it was minus 40 ) when one of the female pilots volunteered to share her room with the this male FA. I bought her a bottle of booze as a thank you when we got back to home base :)

You are correct; zero to do with deregulation.

You rase an interesting point - like in many industries/professions/jobs, the workers did have it better in the past, in some ways - and its worse to give up a benefit/income vs never having had it in the fist place - I'm 56 and I remember when flying was a really positive experience; you dressed up for it, personel were polite and professional - but the public spoke and said we want low fares, and the industry responded - however, there is zero excuse for the lack of courtesy that so many experience today, and not just in the avaition industry.

Bottom line is you cannot mandate work rules as you could in the 1960's as to appearance, weight, et al (hell, I'm not that old, but do remember when the want ad's - another 'old' term   - could specify help wanted "male" or help wanted "female") - you can if the job requirement says you have to be able to lift 50 lbs, for instance - but be prepared to prove it :)

There are no shortage of hot flight attendants on most of the Asian carriers.

If you think that Cathay Pacific has hot flight attendants, you should see the ones on Thai, Korean Air, or Singapore Air.

And for a discount carrier, Air Asia has quite an entourage as well.
