I drove back from the beach this Sunday, first time for me on a Sunday, and did not realize they use a "reversible lane" - where all lanes between Orotina and Cuidad Colon become eastbound lanes between noon and 6pm on Sunday. It worked fine, traffic flowed freely.

But, for those unaware like I would have been, if you may be driving the other way, westbound, on the Autopista going to the beach on a Sunday during those hours, I presume you will have to exit at Orotina, find the old westbound road, and re-enter the Autopista (Rt 27) at Cuidad Colon? Bring a good local map and be prepared to stop and ask for directions.

A few months ago on the way to the beach I got off at Orotina to pick up an amiga. Wasn't that difficult to get back on the Autopista there with her help, but going on to Cuidad Colon via the old road wasn't at all obvious to me.

And be prepared to be given wrong directions if the person doesn't know. They will never say "I don't know". They will just pick one direction at random and point you that way.
